In 2023, Honda and Acura present their respective sporty options in the form of the Civic Type R and the 2024 Integra Type S. As the smallest members of their respective lineups, both vehicles come equipped with potent turbocharged engines and sophisticated suspension components. Given their remarkable similarities, potential buyers may wonder which car would be the better choice.

The Integra Type S and Civic Type R have a nearly identical performance profile, as both vehicles utilize the same powertrain. Each car is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission and a front limited-slip differential.

The Acura Integra Type S, however, boasts slightly more power than its Honda counterpart. The Integra produces 320 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, while the Civic delivers 315 hp and 310 lb-ft. This power discrepancy can be attributed to the Integra's high-flow exhaust system. Official performance metrics, such as 0-60 mph times and top speeds, have not been disclosed for either vehicle. However, it is reasonable to assume that both cars perform comparably in these aspects.

When it comes to technology, the Integra Type S and Civic Type R exhibit striking similarities. Both vehicles feature a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9.0-inch touchscreen display, differentiated only by unique graphics for each brand. The Integra, however, offers a superior sound system: the ELS 3D Studio audio with 16 speakers, compared to the Civic's 12-speaker Bose setup.

Acura, as the more "upscale" brand, provides the Integra with a more luxurious interior. The Integra comes standard with sport leather seats featuring suede inserts and heating functions, while the Civic lacks power adjustability and heating for its front seats. The Integra's interior is further adorned with additional leather on the dashboard, door panels, and steering wheel, as well as more substantial aluminum trim pieces. The Integra offers three interior color options—Red, Black, and Orchid White—whereas the Civic is available only in a two-tone red-and-black suede combination.

Opting for the Integra entails a premium of $7,000 over the Civic. Including the destination charge, the Integra Type S starts at $51,995, while the Civic Type R is priced more modestly at $44,890.

I wish they gave SH AWD system to type S. It’s just not worth 50k price tag.

Model year 2024 Acura Integra Type S for calendar year 2023. I'd take the DE5 Integra Type S.
