“Clodagh appeared on the show and asked producers to be extra careful with her prized teapot collection. Barker and Handy Andy created a set of suspended shelves to house the pots; inevitably, the entire thing collapsed. Clodagh lost more than £6, 000 worth of teapots, which also had sentimental value (a Clarice Cliff pot was one of her mother’s 21st birthday presents).

Now 75, Clodagh is not entirely over the incident. “I still don’t feel very good about her, ” she says of Barker. “On the very rare occasions she’s on television now, when I do see her, she’s still very bouncy, and I just don’t think she earned the bounce.”

Insurers reimbursed Clodagh for the value of her teapots, but she never risked another collection (“I couldn’t bear it to happen all over again”). “

I somehow doubt her story. Did they not show the seen where she spoke to Clodagh? I don't believe she ended up laughing about it...unless it was that type of heartbreaking laugh we sometimes do when we've lost something precious.

The two neighbours who were also friends of the teapot collector wanted a solid, permanent corner shelves, but Linda Barker, being the "expert" overruled them, believing that freestanding "floating" shelves would be better & look nicer. Even Handy Andy wasn't happy about it. Using only support effectively no thicker than cotton thread the results would quickly prove inevitable.

I’m betting she is still upset about it…..if she died she cursed these people on her deathbed.

It’s ironic that Linda Barker was born in Shelf…

£6, 000 nothing. My great-great-grandchildren wouldn’t have had to work by the time I got done with them for breaking my antiques.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand why those teapots were even there? If they are valuable to you why on earth would you leave it in the company of strangers??

That was very anticlimactic than what I was expecting

Yeah right... What was she supposed to say?
"- I want compensation for every teapot you smashed!" ?

This is the typical " You say you are fine to not make a scene". Thought it was OBVIOUS that she was so sad & hurt.

-But she said she was fine!

No, just Read the Room! Does she looks like a person who is doing totally fine directly after getting her collection smashed to bits?

This incident pretty much destroyed the show and what little was left of it's reputation by then and resulted in it getting cancelled. The BBC's lawyer's went through Hell because of this, but it was predictably the licence payer who ended up paying for the damages and court costs.

I was buzzing. I had the same set, her loss immediately made mine rarer and more valuable. Thank you changing rooms 😂
