Spreading a layer of peanut butter on each slice of bread to protect the jam from soaking through the sandwich was a trick I learned when I went off to college and ate a LOT of PB&J to get through budget, too tired to cook, or late study night hunger attacks. They also packed well for weekend trail hikes when you didn't have a lot of money to bring fancy expensive granola protein bars. 🙂

You can also fill a sandwich with pb&j, and then treat it like a grilled cheese.
Butter the outside, cook on a pan until golden brown and crisp, and the insides become a molten mixture of peanut butter and jelly/jam. It's absolutely the best way to have a PB&J
