Is Aluminum Bad For You? (In Deodorants)

Over the last few years, aluminum-free deodorants have become more prominent, causing many to ask: Is aluminum bad for you? What does aluminum in antiperspirants do to the body? Is it dangerous, does it cause breast cancer - or are the fears just a myth?

In this video, we dive into the latest evidence, and in particular, what the European Union concluded after nearly a decade spent studying the safety of aluminum and antiperspirants.

The surprising truth: Aluminum is the third most abundant element on earth (about 8.3% of the earth’s crust), but our bodies don’t have much use for it, so we don’t absorb much. Is the aluminum in antiperspirants different, and does it get more readily absorbed by the body? After a lot of studies, the answer is no – our bodies absorb far more aluminum from food than from antiperspirants.

everything was good until the end of the video where I realized that you have a conflict of interest. this is not to say that you were not correct, but I should not be getting my information from you. I need further research. thank you anyway

The thing with anti perspirants is that the aluminum causes yellow staining on the clothes compared to the non-aluminum deodorants where the clothes are perfectly fine.

I’d be careful saying ‘the science is settled’ considering it’s an always changing field. That being said, I do appreciate the study/info.

But, isn’t it unhealthy to stop sweating ?
I thought sweating also was letting toxins out of your body.

I personally only use aluminum anti sweat when I go on a date with a fine woman. Besides that, I’ll go use my natural deodorant by Dr squatch

when antiperspirant sellers tell you it’s safe.. no conflict of interest here, none at all…

I thought the argument had less to do with how much aluminum our bodies absorbed, but more the fact that antiperspirants prevent the body from sweating, which could clog pores and prevent the excretion of toxins?

I’ve been using aluminum free deodorant for about a year and a half now. People say conflict of interest, and maybe so, but I say a company in pursuit of making the most effective and safe to use product is a natural result of market competition. Cool to hear more information on the subject rather than simply an “aluminum free” label

The two most recent antiperspirants I used caused lumps and swelling in my armpit area.
After I stopped using antiperspirants, no deodorant seems to work. I'm reeking within 3 hours.
Dangerous stuff !!

Crazy thing is I'm allergic to some metals and my underarm would get really itchy when I would wear it, I thought more people had this same issue since they would go out of their way to make this type of deodorant

i understand the conflict of interest, but the studies were pretty convincing at least without any counterargument. thanks for the video!

Im much more worried about antiperspirant clogging my pores and possibly making me sweat or smell more. I have a pretty sweaty face so I was looking at your face products, and the THIRD ingredient in your face cream is Witch Hazel and the FIFTH is denatured alcohol. Those are too very sensitizing ingredients when use at that concentration. There’s also essential oil which can be irritating. The ingredients for the face primer spf look better but they still have rosemary oil which makes me nervous as someone with sensitive skin and eyes. I don’t want to be less sweaty but damaging my skin long term, which herbal essential oils can do. And you can’t tell what concentration it’s at from the ingredient list.

The only reason aluminum-free to exist is that aluminum salts react with specific types of sweat and cause white-yellow markings in clothes. No health concerns, just cosmetic.

I just switched from an aluminum deodorant because I was tired of the aluminum deodorants ruining my t-shirts in the underarm area. I hadn't even thought about health issues.

Safe for Some. Both my daughter & granddaughter made trips the ER to have aluminum removed cysts that formed from aluminum absorption. Aluminum clogs the pores preventing sweat/perspiration. That’s why it’s called Anti Perspirant, Yes!

You talk a lot about absorption but don’t mention how most breast cancer occurs in the part of the breast where you put on deodorant, isn’t this why aluminum is dangerous?
