Validating the operator ergonomics or human factors of driver cabin/cockpit for new on- or off-highway heavy machinery or equipment has in the past been conducted by having people sit it and operate physical mock-ups of the drivers seats or cockpit design. However, many decisions will be locked in by the time that such a physical mock-up is constructed and significant investment made in tooling and production of the mock-up might also prevent the mitigation or correction of any design issues that emerge during the studies.

Virtual reality based on the early design CAD data can allow machinery manufacturers, OEM, and end customers to evaluate the designs that they consider to order or commission, without the wait. In this short video we consider just a few of the Human-Centric process validation concerns. What is it like to experience climbing in or out of this cabin? Is field service expedient? What will drivers see when operating this product?

All these questions and more can be addressed using only the available CAD data and conducting lean virtual process and product reviews, in this case using IC.IDO, ESI Groups Human-Centric Product and Process Validation Solution.
