In the days before SPD, I met a guy who used Look pedals on his mountain bike with a piece of old tyre glued to the underside of his shoes!

I used crank Brothers stamp 7 on my gravel bike, its just a different animal than a road bike and depending on how hard you run it sometimes being able to put your foot down quickly on sharp corners is a must

I no longer ride road shoes or pedals on any bike. Time Atacs on all my bikes, road or MTB. One exception: flat pedals on my 51 year old Raleigh Sports, 3spd IGH, 3-spring Brooks B73 saddle. My town bike extraordinaire!😁

Depends on the gravel. Out here in BC things get technical quickly so I would use my MTB shoes. But If I was just doing towpaths all light to gravel I would use road shoes maybe.

If I had a gravel bike I'd just run SPD XC pedals and use my MTB shoes, even keeping my cleats shoved all the way back like I do for MTB.

Gravelling without walking, road shoes is the way. If you gravelling requires you to walk then use the old Spd's 😊

Spider Plus 3 MTB shoe 24 - I can run I these on actual mixed trips. Here in norway we have all the terrain.

I ride Time ATACS on everything. I started with them on Mtn bike, now on road, touring and gravel. Makes no sense to me to have different pedals/shoes/cleat setup for different bikes.

Oh and one more thing. It is roadshoes where you can put SPD-cleats. Don't.

It is desperately uncomfortable to walk more than 2 meters. Use spd-sneakers or something like that if you don't want to use gravel-shoes.
