Take heed when Eloy says you'll want a fast USB key, even if it's a 3.0 USB key it doesn't mean it will be fast. Once you switch to persistent everything will slow down depending on the speed of the USB. I tried a 3.0 64GB key from Silicon Power first and while it's affordable it's not very fast, so I switched to my samsung BAR plus which is rated at 400MB/s and it should make a difference. Thanks for the tutorial Eloy!

Thanks much for a great video! The next step is to use whole disk encryption on the USB key - there is a YouTube video on how to do that.

Thanks again for the video. I finally got it going, but my computer (4 GB of RAM) froze twice when I had the Workstation opened, with the Gateway minimized, during setup. I think you need a computer with at least 6 GB of RAM. "Mental Outlaw" did a similar video, and he ran some kind of test to determine RAM usage, and his test showed that a little over 6 GB of RAM was used.

Virtual Box allows the user to reconnect to the internet after changing the MAC address, by toggling between NAT settings on the Network Adapter settings. Have you done a video on re-connecting to the internet after changing MAC adresses? Thanks.

can you recommend a good way or tutorialon how to back up/clone the os as well as the encrypted persistent storage?

With this setup, I think you have Virtual Box inside Kali. Could you have Virtual Box inside Kali, to change the settings? I saw another video where this fellow was able to get the internet to connect after he changed the MAC address, by toggling the connection setting from NAT network, to NAT, and back to NAT network.
I guess the way to do that is to start with Ubuntu on a bootable USB, then install Virtiual Box inside Ubuntu, then install Kali inside Virtual Box

Hi, I would like to update you on Whonix: instead of downloading the OVA file, the Whonix website now gives two commands to copy and paste into the Terminal. The end result is the same.

Thanks for the video. Do you think this will work with a computer with only 4 MB of RAM? I think you mentioned that Qubes was a real "memory hog" in a different video. Is Kali Linux more memory-friendly? Thanks again.

Hey Knowledge Sharing Tech, can this process be done with an external hard drive with a dedicated partition instead of a USB?

Hi, thanks again for the video. If I understand right, Kali Linux is running as a "live boot" - it has not been installed on the USB drive. Can live boot operating systems be upgraded to new versions? Or would I have to start all over again with the new version from the beginning? Please advise. Thanks.

I got an error message when trying to import Whonix into Virtualbox. Do you have any ideas how to fix that? Thanks.

Could you also put Tails inside Virtualbox, as you did with Whonix here, or is that not a good idea? Tails seems to start faster than Whonix, and I wasn't able to set up a Tor Bridge with Whonix. Thank you.

Hi
Great video. Thanks.
I am getting an error running the imported VMs in Virtualbox. "VT-x is not available. (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX).
In the settings of my (powered off) virtual machine in System -> Processor, the option "Enable Nested VT-x/AMD-V" was greyed out and I could not enable it.
To enable nested virtualisation I ran :
VBoxManage modifyvm Whonix-Gateway-XFCE --nested-hw-virt on
The option "Enable Nested VT-x/AMD-V" is now ticked... but I get the same error.
Any ideas.
Thanks in advance for any assistance. I'll keep googling...

Do you recommend using encrypted persistence?

When typing in “$ sudo apt install virtual box” it says it cannot find the package for virtualbox. Any fix for this?
