Brilliant ride! Theo Bachelot ploughs a lone furrow and still manages to win on the near side rail at Saint-Cloud...

Pythagoras tells us he travelled a lot further.

I remember Eddie Delahoussaye once saying, "If one of these horses gets it in his head that he wants to run a certain way, there's nothing you can do about it".

The high ground is the dry ground. The course drains into the centre. Running in mush slows you down. The Jockey inspected the course before the race. Maybe.

Even though this is an extreme example. This is why you see jockeys and trainers walking along the course earlier on in the day. They're testing the ground and looking for the best route

‘Ooo, they are wide apart, I think he might have done it even’. 😁

I wonder if the horse got better traction running on the outside. I imagine the ground would be mushy near the inside. Sort of like running in sand?

That was like Mario Kart where you find a power up conveyor. What a classic.

Jockey was worried about COVID - definitely 6 foot distancing between him and the other Jocks

We do a lot of betting in France. From experience, the ground on the stands side is faster when it gets heavy! Normandy Bridge followed up with a 2nd in a group one next time out. For those interested, the other 8 races that day were won by horses racing up the same stands side!

My dad is a trainer and he won a graded 1 classic where the jockey did exactly the same as here, horse's name was Praxis Parade (ARG)
