A quick video demonstrating a fairly simple way to make a polygon-based volumetric cloud using cycles renderer.

Making a quick cloud in blender:

1. Add a cube
2. Add subdivision surface to it.
3. Add a displace modifier, and use "clouds" texture on it, with large feature size.
4. Add another dispclace modifier, and put "voronoi" texture with small feature size on it.
5. Adjust colors on "voronoi" texture with ramp.
6. (optional) create an empty object to control both displace modifiers. Set displace modifier coordinates to "Object", and use the Empty you just created as a reference object.
7. Create a cycles material, add "Volume Scatter" shader to it.

Done.
