As you point out, it all really depends on your goals and interests. Here in the European Union German is a dominant language if you consider that approx. 92 million speak it, for a global UE population of 447 million. French is spoken by approx. 73 million people in France and Belgium. Not to mention tri-lingual Luxembourg with French and German as well as Luxembourgish (an interesting Germanic idiom with some French downloads). However, outside the EU French is more an international language than German. Which one is easier? Quite frankly neither are easy languages - not as simple as English at least. FYI, I live in a French-speaking town in Eastern Belgium with the German border less than 30 kms away from home (and Luxembourg less than 20 kms), so I'm commonly exposed to both languages; French is my native and usual language but I also speak decent German.

Ass engineer many times I thought to learn german due high chances being hired in germany, however realized german is very limited just in germany hardly ever Overseas outside germany come across german spearkers unlike french is more wide than german example if you know french you can work and study countries like canada, france and belgium further many countries in africa speak french as official language, is tricky to decide what best depend from people view and exacly path, if you focus is just germany country, love german culture or have a project, received job proposal to work in germany lern german indeed, if you want find more speaker worldwide study more countries, work overseas french best option.

I would have to say it depends. People may learn a language for the purpose of interest, family reasons or being active in a region or community. German is a strong language within Europe, given the fact that it's one of the most spoken languages in the EU, as well as Germany having one of the largest economies yet. However, you will only find the language popular mostly within Europe, considering the fact that most of the German speaking population lives in Europe. Outside of Europe, there are only very small communities active, which aren't that common at all unlike French or Spanish. In fact, French is highly in demand these days, given that it's one of the official languages of the United Nations and the fact that the number of speakers are widespread. Plus, a lot of social science areas have a focus in French.

It is much easier to learn spanish when compared to
both german and French.
However everything depends
on self interest. I study all
these 3 languages.All these
have SVO concept of sentence making just like
English which makes it a lot
Simple. However, the Subjunctive mood makes it
a bit superfluous and I have
totally avoided it for the time
being.
Learning language is not a
Piece of cake. It takes time&
Constant touch with it. You
are blessed if you have a
multi lingual neighbour with
whom you can communicate
freely. In Texas my neighbour
helps me a lot to speak spanish and French. I appreciate your guidance to
Choose French or german.I
would say go for both.
I have in my kitty 5 Indian
languages like Hindi, Punjabi,
Urdu, Tamil &Malayalam apart
from English.
Beau coup Merci..Muchas
Gracias...Danke❤

English is a national language, like German and French. Esperanto is an international language.
La angla estas nacia lingvo, kiel la germana kaj la franca. Esperanto estas internacia lingvo.

Hey, I'm studying translation and i find German very difficult, we learn to translate it, so we need to have a very high level of the language to work on it, it's not like learning it for fun or for living in German, feel like giving up and doing french. Someone that has studied Translation and Interpretation can tell me what they think?
