To think in just 3 minutes and 52 seconds I got more out of what you said concerning any type of creative writing than 2 semesters at University! :-)

Winston Churchill said that  he modeled his writing style on Gibbon and Macauley. I think he said thisin his delightful book, "My Early Life". And thank you for this delightful series.

Thank you Sir for this excellent video. I have always had my servants do my writing. Today, instead of taking their normal cigarette break, I instructed them to watch your video and to immediately commence writing like Edward Gibbon from now on. Again, Thank You!

I wonder if practicing the sentences over and over again got him to write in a more oratory-based style than people who write direct to paper, then edit that text?

The fact that he spent many years speaking / writing in
French ( it was almost his first language at one point )
almost certainly contributed to his style.

I’m reading the abridged and looking up words … the word ‘diffuse’ comes up quite often and character adjectives dissolute, ignominious, rapaciousness and I especially liked discovering the def of lucubrations 😂

I find that type of writing style is far more helpful to me than typing. Most of it is in Arabic, and I have to say that it really makes what I say much clearer than otherwise. I'd add something a member of my graduate committee advised:

When you write, write so clearly that not only yourself, but a foreigner 100 years for now, can understand.

Problem is most of my material is required to be typed, on relatively short notice. And it's in technical English.

Should get plenty of time though when I'm done with Graduate School--which is only weeks away :D

In point of fact, there's someone whom I had the privilege to get acquainted with latterly & belike I shall have no scruple in averring that he scribes much in the similar vein as the author in question. Forsooth I tell thee his writing is impenetrable to me
