As a luthier and guitar player, I hated the silicone fingertips until my grandfather quit playing guitar. I asked why, and his reason was the pain. In his 80s with diabetes and countless medications, the pressure caused him immense pain in spite of his callouses. I bought him some, and while they did not eliminate the pain, they did lessen it a great deal and he began playing again. Every now and then a seemingly stupid gadget benefits people with disabilities. Most are just dumb, though. The hand expander will cause serious damage and permanently weaken your hands if you use it as suggested by the manufacturer.

Instead of buying a tool to stretch your fingers you could just... you know... practice the chords lol

The finger mittens are silly for most people but I do recommend them for guitar learners who have gone through Chemo and find their skin is more fragile after treatment. It also may be a helpful option for guitar learners with hypersensitivity associated with ASD.

The finger stretcher looks like a medieval torture device for guitar beginners.

Those finger taps make your fingers look like warriors or luchadores

There are two ways to be able to play guitar without finger pain
#1 = Practicing slowly at first and build up calluses
#2 = Play the heck out of your fingers and lose all nerve feeling in them so you don't have to worry about pain

Edit: And I wonder why my phone doesn't recognize my fingers on my left hand :|

Triangle picks are an art form unto themselves. They aren't the easiest to play with, but once you learn how, they become such an amazing tool.

Actually, instead of those weird picks, I recommend using (radium) glow picks. I actually have a Daddario pick which glows somewhat like radium. So in case its lost, in the dark it would be easier to find.( not always...just saying so because i usually practice in the evenings :) )

I bought the finger protectors. Yeah. Mistake. But here is something that DID help: you can get a paint-on callus protector for your finger tips! It has the consistency of crazy glue, but unlike crazy glue, it is non-toxic. You only put it on the very ends. This really helped! The stuff I used was called "Quik Callus, " but I think they are out of business now. I've played enough so I have natural calluses now, but this stuff really took the edge off. Here is another good thing: it is a thumb pick that has a little spring in it to hold it to your thumb! Black Mountain is the brand. Rock on! :)

1: That looks like something you'd use in a beat 'em up game.
2: That could be useful when you gotta pick hot things off a plate.
3: I don't even on that one too.
4: You could make pick necklaces out of them! And the pouch could be used to store handy items.

The silicone finger thingies actually worked really well… I started playing 4 weeks ago and after 2 days my fingers couldn’t take anymore so I got those, you still develop calluses and since a total newbie can’t change chords as fast as you, it was very helpful…. Within a week of using them I had enough of a callus that I didn’t need them anymore. Just throwing that out there for total newbies like me because I probably would’ve quit bc of the pain if I didn’t have them. 🥰

Hello Elise, When I set up an acoustic guitar for a newcomer, I always install the following strings:
Elixir Acoustic Guitar Strings - Phosphor Bronze - Nanoweb Coating - 10|47 - Extra Light
These strings are easier on the finger tips than standard gauge.

Also, a good tuner is a must. This is my choice: Snark ST-2 Multi-Instrument Chromatic Tuner
I've been a happy Snark fan for two decades. Wishing you the very best with your musical dreams and endeavors.

when i was a beginner guitar player my teacher actually recommended the silicone finger mits. they worked really well for a little and then i could normally play without them :)
