I am not a beginner, I am at the other end, as I started using Unix as a software engineering tool in the early 1980's and have used various Linux distributions for the last 20 years. However, for my 80 year old father-in-law, I wanted the easiest to use operating system for his computer usage (email, web, documents, spreadsheets). So I replaced Windows with Linux Mint on his computer. I was surprised at how easy to use and totally reliable Mint was. Also it was just as good for advanced software engineering as more specialized distributions, so I changed my 6 desktop/laptop computers all to Mint a few years ago. So you can start with Mint and grow your skills without changing from Mint.

I've been using Linux Mint for about 10 years now and have absolutely been enjoying it, and then I switched to Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 when it was released and have been using it on all my computers since.

I’ve been using Linux Mint for 6 months now, coming from Windows 10. Amazing distribution.

Window’s privacy is a nightmare. I switched to LMDE with all my office and private stuff 1 year ago. On the Win11 machine is just Steam and the school stuff of my kid.

I’ve been using Linux since 2005. After all these years and trying basically every distro under the sun. I’ve settled with LMDE. Been using for years and never failed or disappointed. At the end of the day I just need to get my work done and get on with my life. No time to configure a whole DE from scratch anymore.

Totally agree.
When I decided to leave Windows for Gnu Linux, Linux Mint was the distribution that allowed me to do it. To this day it is still my main distribution for all the qualities you have listed, moreover, you are not forced to use the terminal, as in other distributions.

I have been using Linux Mint for several years. I use the Debian edition as my daily driver and 21.3 on my media PC

Amen. One other thing that makes Mint shine is that I can install it on somebody else's machine in an OEM mode. That allows them to power up the first time and create their own user and password.

I agree, I've been on Linux for just over 5 years now and I started on Mint for a whole year. After that I went on a distro-hopping journey and fell in love with a lot of distros like Manjaro, Garuda, Nobara, Endevour and Debian. However after awhile I just started wanting something stable, got out of my way and let me work. Mint is that distro. My only critique is you should have mentioned the Edge version. The standard version has the old 5.15 kernel as it's based on Ubuntu 22.04LTS and some people with newer hardware could have issues installing it. Edge has 6.5 installed out of the box.

Linux mint was one of my first distros that I really liked, then I wanted something with a more up to date kernel, I tried Arch, but settled on Manjaro. Now I use Fedora, but I'm thinking about switching back to Mint as using virtual software was easier to use.

I daily drive for work on OpenSuse with the Cinnamon desktop to learn things, but I agree I would be just fine with Mint. I really like how they run things.

Linux Mint's own program, Warpinator, comes already installed for sharing files with your phone and other devices.

The red dot on the shield in your tray means you need to update your system.

I definitely agree here. You can use it very generally but if you want to tinker under the hood, there's absolutely no problem with that either. I haven't found any software that runs on other distros but not on Mint. Some tools specific to other distros might take a little finesse or compiling to get working but they work. The only down side to Mint, IMHO, is that it uses a very old kernel and so you might encounter some bugs when using it on new hardware.

Totally agreed. When I decided to move to Linux when Microsoft was trying to force Win10 on me about 6 years ago, I tried live sticks of various distros, and Mint was the obvious choice. Ubuntu with it's screen full of giant icons, forget about it. Fedora, nope. Stuck with Mint Cinnamon ever since and still love it.

Hello, I recently installed Linux Mint and looking for instructions I have subscribed to your channel. Even though English is not my native language, I really enjoy your videos, you speak in a very clear, simple way and with easy-to-understand terms. Please keep up your good work. Greetings from Mexico.
