OCD sounds fuller and yet clearer. OCD wins for me

Like them both; but for me, my RAT is king.

Glad I found this video, thanks. The RAT just has a more organic, classic tone to my ears. The OCD sounds good, but perhaps a little more artificial and not quite as solid a tone to my ears.

I personally believe that these are two very different pedals. I have owned both and I love both. The Rat is my personal favorite because it is a very versatile pedal that you can do a lot with, but the OCD is a better pedal if you want a good clean overdrive, but if you want something with a more distinctive sound I would definitely choose the Rat, I use a rat and an EHX small clone for my distortion and I am in love with the tones. There's just something that I can't explain about the Rat that I love.

2 of the best pedals ever made no doubt. I have an OCD v3 and it is so good. Used to have a vintage RAT and miss that, awesome as well.

Just so you know the filter knob on the RAT is inverted, so clockwise is less treble, while counter-clockwise is more treble - the exact opposite of the OCD. So to do a proper A/B you should've had the filter/tone controls facing opposite directions.

Nice to hear them side-by-side. The Rat is Better for: more Heavy Metal & Aggressive Sounds. The OCD enables you to hear Each String ( and individual string harmonics ). OCD can be used as either: just a clean boost, lite crunch - for blues or Classic Rock (ala) Led Zeppelin or AC/DC. OCD is a Very Versatile Pedal ( especially ) combined with: with a Fender Clean Amp Channel and a Strat. That is my Overdrive of choice, ( and I have tried em all ). I enjoy all of your videos. Very Helpful & Informative. - Michael Caz - NYC

The RAT never ceases to amaze.. I still have my first issue rat since late 70's looks like a beat rusted Soviet sub but still works.
Own three others and two clones.

Great video. My Rat has stayed on my board longer than just about anything else. It sounds great in your video, but when you kick one on live in a band, that's when it shines! The rat cuts through the mix like a hot knife through butter. Greatest distortion box of all time. The OCD can't touch it.

I have to say the RAT wins. I have the same one. I do like the OCD too and might buy one, but to me the RAT is the best.

rat has that british lick whereas the ocd is more of an american swiss.
keep in mind ocd has 4 versions.

the volume of the ocd is on very low. in my experience the ocd has a very thick and beefy sound. The volume definitely is a major factor.

I have and love both. They have some similar tones, but I'd say overall the Rat has a pretty distinctive tone, while the OCD really lets your amp shine through. My Rat sounds pretty darn similar on most amps I try it with, which don't get me wrong, is a great tone, but the OCD varies greatly on the amp you use. It is almost kind of an "enhancer" drive somewhat like the Tube Screamer. Two great tones.

Both sound nice but I prefer The RAT.

OCD is an overdrive more than a distortion pedal. Both are great but it depends on what you play

This is like comparing distortion to overdrive, oh, it is! I think they can be made to sound much the same when the Rat's distortion is low. At that point the Rat sounds like a good overdrive. I have both pedals. Turn the distortion up on Rat and it goes heavy with distortion losing similarities with the OCD.

The OCD is like a hot rodded Tube Screamer which is basically a Overdrive Pedal, with the mid range hump to help cut through the mix for lead playing. The Rat is a distortion pedal which is great to emulate a more flat response "strangled' Marshall JCM800 type rhythm sound. Both are great pedals. Buy both, or buy one or the other, depending on your budget or needs.

I have all OCDs V1 to V4, Vintage Rat  and Rat 2 1987. Rat is more fat sound, Ocd is more transparent. Rat 2 and OCD v3 are on my board.

its a 2000 Vox AC30 TB/6 with blue speakers, and i upgraded the Transformers to Mercury Magnetics, and some caps and resistors have been replaced to vintage ones.
