From Homeless to Hopeful -Cause/Action: Monarch School at TEDxSanDiego 2012

Chuy Nunez, Andrew Schlegel, and Cynthia Valenzuela, two teachers and a student from Monarch School in San Diego share the experience of homelessness and education. Cynthia and her four siblings were homeless when they arrived at Monarch, a community-supported K-12 school that serves children impacted by homelessness. Their talk, and a beautiful song written and performed by Cynthia and her teacher, Andrew Schlegel, opens hearts to the challenges and resilience of these students.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
