She’s not alone, we’re many people living paycheck to paycheck at least she has 300 extra, sometimes I don’t have even 20 dollars extra after paying all the bills and buying food.

We are a 6 figure income couple and had very little saved and not much cash lying around the preverbal".
'...don't have $500 for an
emergency" that was us. The big thing was debt all kinds of it, cars mortgage (although our home isn't a high price one), student loans for our kids, and of course credit cards.
One day we just got sick of being broke and went total scorched earth and became frugal overnight. Paid it all off, it took almost 5 years but now we have no debt and this year our savings rate is 50% on basically the same income that had us perpetually broke. So for us it is mainly staying out of debt and watching our spending, at first it was a real effort to save in our HISA and 401Ks but now it's actually fun watching our money grow. No car or vacation or neighborhood is worth being broke or financially unstable.

Im a single man with no kids and lives in my mom's basement, i had to sell my house to save money and help my mother who lives off social security check. Its crazy how much everything has went up, like electric, water, maintenance on the car and house, food cost, i try my best to live a simple life.

And she is in better shape than many. The working poor need more voices like this. Many are losing they’re homes and jobs at the same time

We can all relate with her. It's really bad right now under the current administration.

This is so real that life is getting so hard and expensive. I thought I was alone when things are so unaffordable and now the truth is out. Stay strong and all the best everyone.

Hard times call for different spending habits... I never got take out, got rid of my cable, avoided credit card spending, cut back on buying new clothes. I know it depends on where you live and cost of living is different from city to city, but even tho it sucks, sometimes you have to make some SERIOUS sacrifices.

I can relate to her. My husband and I have good jobs but live paycheck to paycheck. We can't afford anymore cost increases. We just don't qualify for any help because we are middle class.

As a very wise woman of 66 who has lived through some very rough times (son born in 1982 with birth defect-often had to choose between food or his medical care) BUT I’ve also learned there is a LOT of stuff people can live happy and just fine WITHOUT. I’ve never gone to a beauty parlor or had a manicure. I buy clothes ONLY when I need them, have two pairs of shoes, I do NOT own a smart phone ($9.95 flip phone) we never eat fast food or buy at a Starbucks or other overpriced coffee shop, items which can be used or repurposed are, our primary heat is a wood stove and we paid off our 30 year mortgage in 17 years because we DID NOT live beyond our means ever. Our jobs aren’t high paying-husband works retail, I teach music at a Middle School. What we DID NOT do was waste money on unnecessary items-even our vehicles are 23 and 15 years old, we just take care of them.
Common sense and some sacrifice goes a long way. Also planning for that ‘rainy day’ as my father always told me. If you have no savings and are working-LOOK AT WHAT YOU’RE BUYING!

People just need to cut their expenses especially if you’re an RN, you need to live below your means if you want to have money left over
