I really, really loved Lily saying what she said in that scene. People like to romanticize being a mother and pretend that there wasn't a greater joy than it. Nobody really talks about all the stupid shit that comes with it, the dreams you have to give up because of it and you regretting that decision. Though it's ok. It doesn't make you a bad mum, it doesn't make you love your kids less. It just makes you a normal human being.

This is why I love Lily so much, cause when she tells the truth, SHE TELLS THE TRUTH. No sugar coating, no smile on her face, good, bad, or ugly, she says it and you know she's for real, and this makes Lily even more relatable as a mother figure, cause I'm positive that all moms have felt like Lily did in this scene one time or another.

the reason why i will always love HIMYM more than anu other sitcom is because it handles the doubts, failures, pain, tricky situations and problems in life sooo much better than any other TV show i've watched. this episode was especially meaningful because of what lily says. everyone romantisizes the idea of being a mother and how it's the most wonderful feeling ever, but very rarely does someone explore the hard parts of it; giving up on your dreams, slowing you down in a way etc. this show is a master at handling all things emotional.

One of the things I love about Ted Mosby is that he is honestly the most emotionally strong person in the show. He's the character who goes through the roughest times, gets ridiculed a lot but he never seems to give up hope.

It's moments like these that make me say HIMYM is better then Friends. These heart felt moments that connect the audience to the characters is what Friends never had and HIMYM perfected in my opinion..

In my perspective HIMYM handled real life emotions and failures of love and life way better than FRIENDS or any other TV sitcom. There are some moments that will wrench your heart.
Both shows are great and classics on their own and yes HIMYM took a lot from FRIENDS but in terms of real life feelings and emotions HIMYM handled them better; you can't just deny that.

I think what really hurts Ted is that he and Robin broke up for what seemed like adult reasons (they just had different goals; Robin wasn't willling to settle down at all), but then she up-and-decides to MARRY the guy who is known for his inability to commit. It's not just a "I love her more than Barney" thing (though that's definitely a part of it). My take.

I love how after they shared their 'secrets' the first thing Ted did was ask how Lily was feeling. Their friendship is often kind of underplayed in the show, but they really were there for each other when they needed to be.

i always come back to this scene and i *swear* when ted says “times a million” my heart breaks. he went through a lot. i just wanna wrap him with all the goodness in the world

plus the slow version of voices is a very nice touch
