Omg. Thank you so much. I have been racking my head around this problem for along time. I even took it Geek-squad with no positive outcome. I will be trying this tonight. I have done everything. Reset, factory rest, turning it down through the app, cleaning and dust that might be there, new batteries. Nothing worked. Plus it’s only one yr old and in my sons rooms. He has a second tv for gaming but to have it keep shooting up to 100 drove me nuts. Seriously you explained this so quick and easy. Thank you thank you!!!!

The cause of the problem is the IR sensor (behind the clear plastic light pipe at the bottom of the TV) picking up ambient light to generate *false* volume-up signal to the main processor. The fix is simple. Completely wrap the light pipe (clear plastic rectangular piece) with black electrical tape leaving only four small (about 1/4 inch diameter) holes on front and back edges, one pair to pass IR remote signal to the IR sensor, and the other to pass pilot light from LED to the front. It might worth first trying only to cover the light pipe at the bottom from outside (no disassembly required) and see if it works. If not, take the light pipe off the IR sensor board and do thorough covering. I would say TCL goofed a little in their design of IR optics link.

After watching your video I decided to open mine up. You unplugged the wires going to that small circuit board at the bottom of the TV which renders it useless. If you look at where that ribbon cable plugs in, it tells you what each wire does. I cannot remember if its the outside right wire or the outside left. but on one side it has L+ L- R+ R-. those are for the speakers. Don't cut that side. The other side has an enigmatic notation. I cut that single wire and it seems to have fixed the problem. In the end, what I feel is happening is the cheap buttons on the board are getting stuck. I noticed that when the TV was screwing up the LED on the front was flickering all the time. It should only do that when it is getting a signal to change something. Anyway I hope this helps some of you. Sorry I forgot to take any pics when I was in there.

I have a TCL U55P6006, made in 2018 and with different mainboard, but with a very similar internal layout and same IR receiver-3 buttons module. I had the issue of volume rising, i checked the IR board and i realized that when not pressed the buttons had a resistance in order of kiloohms. I sprayed a rust cleaner in the buttons, while clicking then many times, until the resistance raised to some megaohm when not pressed. The problem of the volume rising alone disappeared. What happens is that the buttons get oxidate inside with time, and the rust creates some resistance sending wrong signals to the processor. Cleaning them inside seems as the working solution.

Had 75 inch TCL 8 series. Lasted 16 months, then got black screen . Was told no service or repair centers in USA. So, my $ 1, 800.00 has gone down the drains. No more TCL, No more Chinese TV for me.

all you have to do is disconnect the power cord and reconnect it

I had this issue yesterday, but it’s gone now. TCL 55”. Turned out to be my Bose soundbar. First I removed the remote batteries, held the power down for 30 seconds and retried, the issue remained. Then I did the Audio settings reset, issue remained. I switched the soundbar from eArc to fiber optics, issue remained. Then I did a factory reset, and completely disconnected the soundbar, only relying on the TV Speaker, and the issue went away. 🥹🙏
