This is why it’s laughable when people tell you that counterfeiting supports criminal enterprise, as if charging $10, 000 for a $30 bag is the moral high ground.

Not gonna lie - On top of the fact that luxury brands feel like fast fashion nowadays with the amount of collections, I am ready for these brands to get called out for their lack of quality and especially the working conditions.

That's why I don't buy luxury. If I want to splurge a bit on myself, I look for handmade and craftsmanship from small designers/ artists.

I was a publicist to a shoemaker who had his shoes made in the same shop as Prada and told me that the most expensive shoe made of exotic materials cost $55 to make and sold at $3k-$10k retail. This was the start of so much enlightenment for me when it came to shopping luxury goods and now can’t even see myself spending a penny on luxury goods anymore.

If we can afford to consume luxury products; we can afford to make sure vulnerable workers are protected.
These conditions are deplorable and unacceptable. I’m boycotting.
As a matter of fact, I’m disgusted with the entire industry at the moment.
I’ll enjoy my high quality luxury bags I purchased in the 70’s. I no longer desire to shop luxury. I’m finding higher quality and artistry in small boutique products.
Thank you for addressing this issue, Sophie!

It’s unacceptable. All luxury brands should be held to a certain standard and there is no excuse for them to not treat their workers right if their markup is so ridiculously high.

Inside information here:
My father has a company for raw materials like cashmere, silk, camel, alpaca. He’s in Prato at least 4x a month and sourced materials for basically all brands and he’s been doing that for 35 years.
During that time he basically saw all the factories from the inside.
Prato has always operated that way. Big brand, you name them, always used to import pre made parts for bags and shoes in Asia and have them put together in Italy. For shoes they just glued and sew them together in Italy.
He always said don’t buy the big famous names. There are a few true Italien brands that are still 100% made in Italy but these are not the huge brands you have in mind now.

The fact that so many people who pose as long time luxury customers, have belittled and scorned other classes of people for cheapening the luxury house. Look at this mess of a place from which the egocentrism came from. Dior cannot be the only one doing this. Dior just got caught. We are supporting slave labour and possible human trafficking just for a 4k bag that started off in a filthy room most people wouldn't dare go. 😢

Luxury is going down, it is clear to me, and a bag that costs 55 euro to be made is nothing luxury OBVIOUSLY ! 😂

I always knew about the markup but I assumed the bags would cost 250-500€ in production. 53€ and these working conditions is unacceptable. They’re worse than actual fast fashion.

I know this video is about Dior, but I've always thought that if there was no social media, the demand for bags like the mini Kelly would be soooo low & likely only purchased by billionaire Arab princesses. I just don't believe a regular person would hand over around £8k for a bag the size of a wallet if they weren't able to show it off to thousands of people on social media.

You are one of very few luxuary youtubers speaking about this while the majority are doing dior hauls and shopping vlogs absolutely unfazed by the sufferings of these workers they can hold and enjoy all these bags that people are being held hostage to make idk how they're bringing themselves to enjoy them

People need to stop buying luxury. We need to start questioning what cost these items have at the other end of the supply chain. These brands should be held accountable for this. I will never spend money on bags that are outrageously overpriced because they are simply lining their own pockets. There are plenty of good handbags at mid range pricing that are more ethically made.

Just imagine working at Dior, Chanel, LV and selling this tat with the company making 3-4k and you can’t afford to buy groceries and pay your rent working full time. It’s simple unadulterated greed. No amount of money will ever be enough for some people and it’s stomach turning. Notice how all the hands in the nice factory shots are all white skin.

I’ve heard of Chinese migrant workers in Tuscany at the beginning of the pandemic. Tuscany region had horrendous outbreak and there were whispers that their magnitude of outbreak was due to the fact that many of the workers went back to China for Lunar New Year celebration and came back to Italy. This is all speculation and I’m not sure how much of it is based on truth and facts. That said, I wonder if this worker exploitation goes beyond Dior to other luxury brands. Made in Italy by Chinese migrant workers…. Consumers feel okay paying higher prices thinking they are not supporting unethical labor practices paying such high premium for luxury, but the underbelly of corporate greed makes mockery of us all.

Did anyone notice the overflowing ashtray? All these designer bag collectors treasuring the bags, keeping them in special storage not realizing someone is chain-smoking while assembling them.

Well. Yeah? This is not surprising to me. Chinese workers have been making good replica for decades lol no one wonders how that's done?

I was recently in Florence, Tuscany, and got a lovely bag at Buti, who claimed to be one of the traditional family businesses there (they also do custom exotics). While we were chatting to the sales person who had worked there for a decade, he said to us: ‘We know all the families who make high-quality bags, there aren't that many of us. Where the rest of it comes from, we don't know.’, implying they are cheaply produced somewhere.
