Atheist Responds to Dishonest Christian Apologetics Tactics | Re: Stand to Reason

What are friends for, if not to be targets for a con? Stand to Reason's Greg Koukl gives us a peek under the hood of what apologists think about atheists in a call with a budding proselytizer, where he contextualizes the caller's friends as hostile enemies, and shows him ways to deflect and dodge around questions, lay traps, and try to trick people into faith. Because Christianity can't win if truth is on the table, and Greg knows it.

I met a kid in middle school. We talked a lot and got pretty friendly, he rode my bus as i recall and we were both weird nerdy kids.

Anyway we were playing some roleplaying game and somehow i mentioned my belief in evolution and he would. Not. Let. It. Go.
Every day hed ask me about it. Hed text me questions and videos and try to debate constantly. And i mean "debate", he would accuse me of not citing sources in conversation and stuff.

Eventually i just stopped talking to him. This is what happens when you treat people this way. They ignore you.

But thats exactly what the religious bigots want, of course. Its not about spreading the good news anymore, its about defending the minds of those few who still agree with you.

In other words, we science-minded folks are winning and they know it.

From the few people I’ve seen cover this video, I really enjoyed your take because much like myself, I take a lot of issue with how apologists and theists use their language to weasel their way in and out of issues that they can’t combat effectively. Good luck with your YT journey tho and look forward to more uploads

Militant atheist, just means outspoken.

I get a lot of comment responses from folks that are apologists types. Very dishonest.
The most common responses I get, especially when they get desperate, I call the hostage tactic.
Me: Demonstrate your God in reality in real-time.
Them:. Demonstrate abiogenesis. I don't have to prove god if you won't prove my demand.
Big Bang, abiogenesis, and evolution are the most commonly used in that tactic.
No shame in their game.

11:32 I have a sense of where he's going and I hate it. It doesn't have to be a deep metaphysical evil. I'm capable of suffering as an individual and of empathizeing with other people's suffering. Basically evil in a secular context just means suffering

Yep, as you point out, Koukl's attempt to weasel out of the Problem of Evil wouldn't even work _if I agreed to everything he said!_ Okay, fine, let's agree that there must be a "law-giver" for objective morality. There still is all this objective evil in a world that's under total control of an all-loving god - which is a massive contradiction that disproves _his_ specific god.
All he's done is argue that there must be some objective morality-giver. His god is still just as impossible as a married bachelor (in the sense of "married man")

Is the caller fake? He has no idea what his " friends " would say about Christianity.

Sun Tsu teaches strategy first, if you can't strategize, then use tactics. Never start from a tactical approach.

"Who is the rulemaker?" - humans are! We've created the concept of evil and defined is as something around human suffering. And because we're humans this definition is fluid and very subjective. I think it's evil to kill in the name of God. Too many people in history would disagree with me

You can grind the entire universe to dust, sift it, and still not come up with a single grain of "evil". Societal consensus is the trick here. Definitionally, if you consider all people are worth treating "humanely" (you can go by what you would consider "good" or "bad" if done to you), then you have a good basis for a moral framework... -It's not that hard, really.

''Militant atheists' was what USSR citizens, or at least USSR Com party members were supposed to be, there was even a magazine called that... where Koukl finds them nowadays is a mystery.

Yes, target rich. If one believes he has the truth, don't you want your friends to have it?

our educational system is soooo weak- everyone needs to take a good/scientific description class of how life evolved. we are ANIMALS like all the other- how can we have a sustainable natural environment and human society without knowing that we are a part of that and totally dependent upon it!

I have been so busy, Ember. I apologize. I really want to be more active on ur channel. But I have written a 160+ page philosophical paper on The Universe. Its creation, the beginning life, diversification of life, human creation, consciousness, the afterlife, and i answer some of the "hard questions" that are presented when answering these things. So, I have been absorbed.
I am currently putting together my reference list and making illustrations. It is daunting.
But I hope to be back commenting soon. Love ya, James.

*Caller calls Koukl? Did prayer fail* as a means of finding a better “witnessing” strategy?
