eevBLAB #48 - The end of Tech Journalism on Youtube?

UPDATE: Someone has paid for a massive amount of Dislikes on this and my other BattBump video!
My previous video on the BattBump Kickstarter has been flagged for Privacy and may be removed.
If this is allowed, it's surely the end for journalistic history and reporting of public campaigns and story containing personal information that the owner deliberately made public.

NOTE: I've tried the Youtube blurring tool so you can realise how annoying this could be if journalists were forced to remove names from existing new stories. (The tool also sucks and is buggy, as you can see in the video)

NOTE: I missed the time stamp slightly on Playback. The first time stamp is where I say the campaign creators name and city. This was and still is public information on the campaign, even after the profile was deleted.

Cat Clarke is about to get a lesson on the Streisand Effect.

A real engineer read something and told us that it won’t quick remove everything from the world and hide in our rooms to cry.

Keep up the good work Dave, even if YouTube insists on removing your content for bogus claims.

If that video gets removed, please go through the appeal process Dave. As you say, they put themselves out there and you just showed info that was freely available at the time.
If somebody does a Kickstarter campaign then they need to be accountable if they are taking people's money!

The way I see it is you exposed them Dave and now they're trying to expunge any evidence of this scam campaign including your video. Sad really.

Lol these people pulling such tricks abusing Youtube's rubbish system.
I can't be 100% sure, but I have a theory:
- You mentioned the creator's location (public information)
- You mentioned her past and etc (still public information)
They got caught, decided to scrape everything, and shut your video down in a futile attempt to save any small amount of integrity they have. They used the privacy thing as an excuse to remove your video in order to shut down criticism.

What these fools didn't realise is that whatever is on the Internet, stays there forever. This will also scar them, abusing rules to rid criticism.

Don't worry, Gizmodo, and The Verge will give us all the critical coverage we need for such innovative and groundbreaking crowdfunds.

The problem is that YouTube doesn't play by the general rules of the media or the law -- it plays by its "terms and conditions", which are completely different. For example, there is no "fair use" provision under YouTube's T&C. I have also had "privacy" complaints lodged against videos because someone saw themselves in the video and wasn't happy -- even though the videos were taken in a public place where there is no expectation of privacy.

Of course YT's T&C seem to be a whole lot different if you're a "big name" than if you're just another vlogger or YouTube content creator. Note that the mainstream TV publishers can carry (and monetize) content on their channels that would be a violation of the "community guidelines" if you or I published it.

Money talks.

Well, at 1:50-1:55 in the original video you said the author's name and location, maybe that's what triggered the complaint? Either way it's ridiculous, as you said, it's publicly available information.

Fight this all the way. Maybe start a crowdfunder to pay for the legal fees ;-)

The info was publicly disclosed by the person in question, so they lose all rights to complain about privacy.
Upload it to Daily Motion.

Have you checked if the email is from trusted source? Something missing is here because if it's not in YT admin panel then it might be fraud email. Check email header, it may reveal where it originated.

Smells like someone is abusing the reporting system. We need repercussions for false claims.

Youtube is a law unto themselves....its their rules, not laws within legislation. I think this is the problem with most international corporations. Lawless.

LOL, I was just watching the video and it just quit and disappeared. Guess your fears have come true.

"Challenges will be to wait for the technology to be developed..."Pity they don't really give the impression they're waiting for someone ELSE to develop the technology.

I think they don't know that by trying to censor your content they will receive even more exposure than before...
I remember that effect have a name but i forgot.
I can bet somebody archived that video to prevent the censorship.

It seems to me that Cat Clarke got caught trying to pull a scam and is now in full CYA mode. She would have been better off letting it go. Youtube is disgraceful. They are screwing their own content creators.
