Amazing to know that the British Hawker Harrier Jump Jet, vertical take off and landing fast jet fighter, was first engineered and manufactured in the 1960s. Astonishing engineering. The F-35B is a worthy successor to the concept 56 years later.

I was an active duty Marine attached to an AV8-B Harrier squadron on the USS Wasp (ie: LHD-1). When I had flightline duty we launched Harriers lined up back to back on the flight deck - up to 4 at a time - but I've NEVER seen two Harriers coming in to do a vertical landing on the aft-end of the flight deck at the same time - not at all like this shows the F-35B doing. Hariers could only hover one at a time within any vicinity b/c of the hot engine exhaust from their Rolls-Royce Pegasus vectored-thrust engines. My, my, my - times have changed, and STOVL practice and capabilities have grown nicely since

F-35 has amazing tech more refined than the Harrier
