People speculate that Freddie Mercury and Queen were not as big as the recent biopic would have you believe. They were just another 1970′s/1980’s band amongst literally dozens of others. The Beatles probably thought about Queen about as much as the rest of us. It's very interesting how a movie can raise the profile of a group as the biopic did.

The Beatles attacked Country/Western, Pop, Indian music, psychedelic music, rock and rock and roll. With that said, let's dive into the video and see what The Beatles thought about Queen.

Apparently, Paul McCartney once said that if John Lennon hadn’t died, they would’ve *Come Together* for Live Aid

Honest Truth : If The Beatles weren't my all time favorite band, Queen would be.

Also worthy of mention, that in ‘The Night Comes Down’ from Queen’s debut album, one of the first lyrics is a nod to the Beatles. The lyric is “Lucy was high, and so was I.”

If I can recall John Lennon once mentioned Queen in a magazine interview in the mid/late 70's. Not anything about them. I believe it was a question about if the Beatles would ever regroup again. John's response was that it would never happen and that Beatles fans should move on and listen to new bands like for example Queen.

Great video. I was a huge Beatles fan in the 60's until I saw & heard Freddie singing Killer Queen. It was love at first sight!!!!

I think it was wonderful that two such powerful bands could compliment each other. Now that is class.

I love both the Beatles and Queen. Both will still be talked about in 50 or a 100 years from now. I would have to say Freddie Mercury was the best showman ever. However I can't say one band is better than the other. I simply enjoy both these iconic bands. May their music and legends live forever 🙏

The Beatles were masters of the recording studio. Queen were masters of the stadium. *STOMP* *STOMP* *CLAP*

Lennon did make reference to Queen, with Julian being a fan at the time. It's been suggested Crazy Little Thing Called Love inspired Lennon in the studio.

Wow, that photo of George playing the Red Special

If you use your eyes, you can see George is holding a Guild copy of the Red Special.
Brian and Guild attempted to produce a copy for retail but could not agree in the end - Guild wanted to make too many compromises.

In that photo within the video, the Guild logo is clearly seen on the guitar.

There was a lot of mutual admiration there. Paul McCartney also recently took part in a book that was written about Queen, from a fan's perspective, that was really a nice and very graceful gesture from him. The Beatles are obviously the best selling artists and band of all time, and Queen is actually the second best selling band of all time, and the 4th best selling artists of all time. These bands do have some similarities, two similarities are that they were both great at writing good melodies, both bands also composed very complex music, but in a manner that the general public could still enjoy. I personal believe this is a big part of their success. Queen was the best streaming legacy artists before the terrible Bohemian Rhapsody movie.
Out of all the older bands and artists Queen does the best on streaming platforms such as Spotify. Steaming platforms are often associated with a more youthful audience. This could perhaps be one of the big reasons why the Bohemian Rhapsody movie was made in the very first place, the executives knew there would be a big youthful audience for this movie.

It can often surprise some American audiences that Queen has managed to sell more albums then The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin since these bands were more popular in America. But Queen sold a lot of albums in other places around the world. The Beatles were obviously a monumental inspiration for everyone from the 60's and 70's, and even today.
In the quotes from Freddie Mercury about John Lennon he was specifically referring to writing songs with political messages, or songs about peace, but just before his death he did write more message type of songs. There is a photo with Freddie Mercury and Ringo Star so they have met as well. There was also a story that John Lennon really loved the song, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Paul McCartney wrote a song in the late 80's that he wanted to perform with Freddie Mercury, but Freddie Mercury was already very sick at this point, and he just concentrated on creating more Queen music.

Queen has said that they used The Beatles recording techniques as a bible, and they tried to add to the recording techniques as technology became better over the years. These days both Brian May and Paul McCartney are concerned with animal rights.
There is a lot of quotes and connections you can find between both bands.

It was hearing Crazy Little Thing Called Love on the radio that inspired John Lennon to record again, the album was Double Fantasy

Both legendary bands. The Beatles paved the way for making music to go in places where one could not imagine at that point. Queen came after them but they literally could do anything and sound convincingly good every time. Live band, production, songwriting, performance, etc.... when you think about all this, Queen (with Freddie Mercury) was another level. Very sweet of both the bands members to praise each other.

Freddie and Paul almost had a duet in 1987, but it did not happen because Freddie was just too busy. Another thing is that Lennon played a few songs by Queen. It's really nice

As other people commented, John Lennon loved the song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and it inspired him to record again. But the one band that I know John Lennon truly loved was E.L.O. John said that E.L.O. took over where the Beatles left off. The sixties and seventies were truly the best decades of music. It's such a gift to have these geniuses of music be the soundtrack of our lives.

Paul McCartney issued a single called "Once Upon A Long Ago"... Paul conceptually wanted it to have it recorded with a duet with Freddie Mercury, because the two became very good friends after the Live Aid concert, but due time constraints, Freddie did not record in that song. Freddie had many projects solo and Queen and he was battling his first stages of Aids.

Probably the only two bands where the public knows the names of all eight members. Both bands are excellent.
