I was just approved Friday for an auto loan w NFCU . They didn’t ask for any check stubs or proof of income at all. I’ve been with them since Feb 2022 and have only been direct depositing $100 no weekly into this account, since this is my secondary bank. I took out a pledge loan w them a week or so after I opened my account, no credit cards, no flagship checking, just a basic checking and savings account . I didn’t even have a whole lot of money n the checking account, maybe had like $300. I requested $45k and they sent me a message that I was approved for $60.5 k . My transunion is a 660 .

If you don't know what car you want should you just apply for a higher or lower amount? And if you get denied for the higher amount (ex. 40k) will they come back with a counter (ex. 20k) or will it just be a denial all together? Also does it matter if you chose new or used? Meaning if you chose used on the application and decide later that you want new would you have to do another hard inquiry?

I have 2 cars with navy federal, got pre approved for both. The approval wasn’t instant though, it actually took a few hours for an answer. $0 down on both cars and 7.89% interest rate for both. Credit score was a 727. I’m looking to trade one of the cars now for a more expensive car but credit score is only a 645 now. Should i wait ? I have perfect pay history with both cars, never been 30 days late.
