Garden hose repair is easy and MUCH cheaper than buying a new hose.

Hi friend, this is Jeff from Home Repair Tutor and this quick video shows you two methods I thought would fix a leaky hose. BUT they were failures.

Such is the life of a DIYer. But I show you a third method that helps repair your leaky hose in less than 5 minutes.

You'll need to remove the section of your hose that's leaking. Use a hacksaw and miter box. Then use a metal clamp hose mender by Gilmour. It costs a few bucks but is totally worth it. The hose mender I use in this video is for 5/8 to 3/4 inch diameter hoses.

There's also a bonus tip at the end that shows you how to repair the male section of your hose. Again, you can buy a male hose mender for few bucks.

New hoses cost upwards of $30-$50 but these parts cost less than $10 and took 10 minutes to install.

For all the tips and to see my two failures watch the video

If you think this video would help a friend feel free to share it

For tips on home repair & improvement make sure you check out more Home Repair Tutor videos on YouTube.

If you need help with cleaning your grout then take a look at this other video I made

I share many tips that a lot of people have found to be SUPER helpful.

Have a great day!

Jeff

Glad I found you!   tip - if you can't squeeze the end of metal repair unit into the hose, soak hose end in hot water for a bit and try again - it'll soften the hose up and you'll push that metal end right in!

I love you man! That's all I can say!
You are the nicest guy and my husband actually listened to what you said, instead of wasting lots of time on stuff that doesnt work untill he gets angry, breaks things and comes and tells me its trash, buy a new one!Been married for 29 years and repair man, he is not, so this happens with stoves, faulty fawcetts, what ever it may be!You are the first he has ever stopped and actually listened to, its a gift, you must know Jesus!

Thanks, good tips. Saved me the trouble to try other methods. I just went straight to the metal mender and it works totally fine.
All of my hoses now got menders.

The clamp with screws worked very well. Tip: heat up hose end after cutting by either leaving in sun or hot water - all fits much tighter than if cooled. Also, screw in a little at a time on each side - I tore thru a few threads bf realizing but was able to recover.

You can also try a new washer before you try a new male end. For the adapters, I would recommend something not plastic (ie not from $1 store) but for more radiator clamps, you can get those at the $1 store. As a result, it's good to have an extra 1 or 2 menders on hand for when you need it, along with all those clamps. Of course, you have to be able to find it when you need it or it's just as good as not having it ready in preparation.

Hey, Jeff, thanks for another great video. I like to do everything myself that I can and never turn down the opportunity to learn new things. My husband is a General Contractor who was initially surprised at my hands on approach but now turns everything over to me. (smirk!)

Useful tips - thanks! I've had great success buying a hose that does not kink. Seems to allow a lot more flexibility and thus avoid the situation leading to a break in the hose. Enjoy your videos. Nicely put together :D

Wait! Before cutting the hose, see if it might have a warranty. Some have a lifetime warranty. Always keep the placard and receipt, when you purchase a new hose.

that metal mender can be replaced by a plastic hose conector which you buy at garden center or tupe into amazon

I had my hose spring a leak also when using it to feed my 3200 PSI pressure washer. Do special hoses have to be used? Is there some sort of 'back pressure' when feeding pressure washers??
