Explaining the ENTIRE plot of TGCF to my friend

I sat down with my friend Rei (all the way from California!) and discussed my favourite book with her. We have differing tastes with ships sometimes, but the same sense of humour! I may have been unsuccessful... maybe I should try 2ha with her next? xD

I feel like some things- like the fact that Xie Lian saves the Heavenly Officials by flying around on a giant statue of himself, carved by Hua
Cheng, while making out with Hua Cheng- are important when telling people about TGCF because it really emphasizes how hilariously ridiculous this story is at times.

I always have a hard time recommending the heavens official blessing novels because it’s so hard to describe the plot lol. There are so many stories wrapped up! I always end up just saying : trust me, it’s great!

Xie Lian could have so easily been the most terrifying being in existence and one good deed stopped it. When Hua Cheng died as Wu Ming, that could have sent him over the edge again. It's says something about Xie Lian as a person and how deeply he loves and cares for others despite what was done to him.

This video made me realize just how many important plots I have forgotten. Not minute little details. Actual main storyline of significance! Appreciate Kictor trying to summarize and retelling the romantic stories of hualian. ALSO I get how the explanation of plots tend to get funny but I cried! I cried at so many moments like when XL said live for me and when HC kneeled like wuming 😭😭😭

If you're friend isn't already completely whipped for wangxian, there's something a lot of non-chinese audience missed near the end: (spoilers)


in one of the battles, their robes get dyed red because of like a blood cultivation technique or something, then they don't exactly bow to each other, but there's gratitude exchanged and commitment conveyed and all that, and then they bow to the wens (wei ying's found family for a while), and the entire battle could be interpreted as bowing to the heavens.
ESSENTIALLY
You got the red robes, bowing before heaven, earth, parents, and each other, which are key components of a traditional Chinese wedding.
And then they literally ride off into the sunset on little apple, to their little cottage with rabbits and radishes AND THEY LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER
