How I desolder and process SMD components - from PCB to organized storage

Hello! I this video I thought I'd show you how I process scrap printed circuit boards in order to obtain valuable SMD components! Using the special DIY SMD soldering iron tip I invented almost ayear ago, we totally clean out a PC motherboard, sorting the components so we can store them in an tidy manner.

If you came down to the description to look for a link to the first soldering tip video, I must dissapoint you ;-P I kept my word, here is no link, lol!
Go on my channel page to look for it!

OMG! I was so stressed out to get the video done in time! Was never closer to missing the deadline, especially since the screenshot in the beginning features a reference to this very day!

I have been collecting SMD components for years... besides small zip lock bags... I use bead organizations containers. You can find these at Walmart, Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Any SMDs that are subject to static... I use small anti-static zip lock bags, but that is not too often as SMD components are not effected to much by static. Memory, MCU, CPU, ROM... these defiantly should be stored in anti-static bags or enclosures.

And for all those wondering, yes, I did loose a few components in the process, sometimes they just ping out of the tweezers and fly across the room.

A tip for desoldering: Add more solder to the pads. Not only does it add fresh flux to it, it also increases the area for heat transfer thus making it easier to desolder.

Hi, I liked your video. I was looking for something like this for a little while. Although some people would think this is a waste of time and that it would be cheaper to source new SMD components, not everyone in the world have cheap and easy access to these components in bulk plus, reusing them helps a little to reduce the e-waste problem.

I have a question, how do you know which components are good (keep) and which are damaged (throw away)?

You could get a hotplate and do a video

Fine, but just calm down, stop shouting, and waving your arms … and you will take a whole lot more seriously. Thank you.
