If you take some coarse salt and pore the hot gold into it sometimes it forms a pretty good looking Try it sometime.

I much prefer to use a potato over graphite crucibles, I have found they come out much cleaner and they never get stuck in the mould. I use a small scoop of borax for flux and you will get a nice end result. The mapp gas struggles to melt the gold, I use oxy acetylene and a dillon mark 3 torch also known as a henrob 2000 in the states

I have used a charcoal briquette before. The potato is new to me. Quick question I live in Brookings just moved up from socal. Any tips on places I can prospect in my area? I do not really want to travel far because of work would like to be able to just get out and do some prospecting for a couple hours here and there. I have tried to beach sands and haven’t really found much to write home about
