Gold panning blacksand, does it contain gold?

I remember about 10 years ago when I was around 13, my grandpa bought a property to raise his bees. My dad and I went on a hike on the property and he saw a large amount of black sand. He pulled a couple of buckets out of the back of his truck, and I asked him what he was doing, he said, “you’ll see.” We took them home, he grabbed two pie tins and the water hose and he taught me how to pan for gold. We didn’t find anything, but I had a lot of fun anyway.

Black sand is a indicator that there's possible gold, but typically the gold which is heavier than the black sand will fall out of the water current prior to the actual black sand.
So to be safe you need to sample both sand areas to verify gold deposits.

as a longtime recreational prospector I have found that you nearly always find black sand with gold however you don't always find gold with black sand

My dad used to always tell me a story about how my great uncle was hunting Deer and tripped over a rock and found a gold nugget in his shoe about palm sized he still has it in his house.

Black sand tend to be the worst to separate the gold from it because black sand is heavy

In florida we dont have much gold but black sand is where we find fossils from when we were underwater long ago

Although it's black sands, I still think it's counter productive to tell ppl there's likely gold on the surface. Gold is heavy enough to work its way below the surface through wet sand and mud.
