I'm 62 and I've had episodes of sharp bursts of pain in my sternum since my teenage years. It's usually from exercise that stresses the chest muscles (bench press, pushups, swimming, etc.). If I can replicate the pain by pressing or compressing that area, then it's not my heart. Still, go see your doctor.

Hi I am having pain in chest, in the ribs lower and in upper back pain from last more then 1.5 yrs. Before 3montha done HRCT of chest my lymph nodes were swollen after that doctor told because of chest infection. I took the medicines for infection after 1 month again HRCT done lymph nodes were reduced in size and number. But still there is pain in chest ribs and upper back. Completely tired of my life pls what is the reason and treatment.

Play it safe and go see a doc and asked for an X-ray. My late sister inlaw had this chest and back pain on and off for a few years and the family doc would always tell her to stop carrying so many school books in school and at home. It wasn't until she had this wheezing sound when she breaths that the doc thinks its something bad and sent her for an Xray. By then too late stage 4 cancer and died 8 months later.
