This is my first season (2020-21) to ski and I've gone from not being able to stand up on a bunny slope to skiing black diamonds (moguls and steeps) in 3 months. I credit this channel for my progress. I only wish I could go meet Darren Turner and give him a hug - and maybe take a private lesson.

Yesterday, I did my first carve turns and I realized that for the most part, with carving, you just need to commit to it and not worry about falling over

Last week I went skiing. I had only tried skiing once before, when I was 14. That was back when Ronald Reagan was president of America, and I spent most of my time on my backside. Nowadays I live in Japan, and last week we went to Hokkaido, where the slopes were basically empty, despite the perfect conditions. I spent 3 hours with a teacher who didn't speak English, but managed to teach me the basics very well. It was a little terrifying when we moved to the real slopes, but I found I could handle it (more or less). She went over much of what was covered in the video, and I found that I could handle the slopes much better than I thought. I ended up having a lot of fun, and am looking forward to getting in another ski holiday this winter. You don't have to be young to get started skiing, or to be able to enjoy it.

I cannot begin to explain how helpful these videos have been in my development as a skier. Thank you so much for helping me go from a mediocre intermediate to a pretty goof advanced skier. As an adult learner, I will never be the best skier on the mountain, but with my improved skills, I can continue to enjoy steeper terrain despite my declining courage and strength.

These videos are fantastic. This is my first ski season and I've been looking at the videos between runs and after a couple of lessons. I'm picking up the skills and techniques really fast and the instructors are telling people to watch these videos as well! Keep up the good work!

The most clear instructions I ever seen. Great video quality, very clear coments. Nice examples. And above all you don't use that technical vocab that ski instructors use when talking about ski. I can't wait to the next ski season.
Thank you.

That's great you remembered me, see I told you you couldn't get away. Hope to see you back soon and pleased I helped your skiing.

I managed continuous carved turns in Pila this last season. You do have to be confident that your skis won't slide out from under you. Once mastered, the sensation is phenomenal! :-)

Thanks! Clear no nonsense instruction. Even if you have acquired the skills, it doesn't hurt hearing the key points of the technique again.

Every novice skier should watch this video. Such an excellent explanation of the mechanics behind a carve...makes it so much easier to practice on the slopes.

I've watched your videos over and over again, they are by far the best video tutorials out there, I can't wait to put everything I've learned into practise when I go to Andorra at the end of Feb, thanks

Good video. ONE VERY IMPORTANT NUANCE... At 1:42 you mention "roll those knees and ankles in toward the slope". While it might seem unimportant, it is critical to understand the ANKLES BEGIN TO ROLL FIRST and lead the knees!  The ankle roll into the boot is that which creates leverage inside the boot and consequently the solid connection to the ski (that's what you're seeing with "powerful" skiers).  Another important thing to note is how high in the turn Darren is beginning the carve.  A really good carved turn carves the top of the turn as well as the middle and the bottom.

Yes you do, have a look at the clutch Excelerator exercise on one of my films it may help you understand how to transfer the weight it's the same process, thanks Darren

Just started my carving "adventure" thanks to your channel :) I've used your tips and within 2h I was going full speed down. One thing I found that carving turn brings a lot more pressure to the legs then skid turn but at the same time is less "tiring" then the skid one. And its quick :) for a while I will stay on blue slopes as even on those you can go quite fast while carving. Thanks again!

This is one of the best instruction videos I've seen...clear and easy to follow. I've got a long way to go before I can ski like this

I had my first skiing this last weekend, no previous experience and no lessons at all, you can figure what happened, disastrous experience, that's why I'm here and the videos are really helping a lot. Thanks for posting.

Great videos. I spent a few weeks watching all the videos before a recent ski trip to the French Alps and there was a big improvement to my skiing.
