Craftsman Ball Bearing Tool Chest Self-Closing Drawers

Quick video of the "self-closing" drawers on one of the new Craftsman ball bearing tool chests, done in-store.

All the drawers are frustrating to close, so it's not as if the first drawer tested had defective slides.

I install cabinets that have "self close" slides on the drawers and this happens when we install them into a brand new kitchen. Until they have enough weight in the drawers they will do that.

I have a craftsman ball bearing 26" tool chest. It's became a two handed job to open and close the drawers. I guess it's safer when you move your tool chest so you won't loose you tools. But I don't ever move my tool box. So the easy glides would of been a better option for me. I feel like I can screw something up every time I pull the drawer open and closed. I had my wife try to remove a tool and she almost busted the lock thinking it was locked. I told her to pull the drawer hard. :(

I have this exact box and I really do like it. The fact that its harder to close doesn't concern me. This feature helps keep the drawers closed and the drawers don't rattle or shimmy as you're moving the box around. Its a solid box for the price. I plan on handing it down one day.

There is a little green plastic piece at the end (closest to the rear of the cabinet) of the slide installed on the interior of the box of mine that snapped in half. I put it back on, but the drawer no longer latches when closed and now just freewheels (which due to the pitch of my tool room means the drawer won't stay closed). Problem is I can only find a part # for the slide on the drawer, not the one inside the cabinet. I can't see the mechanism to see how it works, so I'm wondering what I can do to correct the issue, or get the proper replacement part from Sears.

they are made to work there best when they have tools in them. . . put some tools in it to test it in the store.

I'm sorry if people don't like the truth, but craftsman has been making some junk tool boxes lately. I know, because I went shopping for one, and could not believe the lack of quality. I love their sockets. And a lot of their hand tools. But tool boxes? Sorry. No.
