Obviously, Elizabeth can't take care of her own children.

when she says “you’re a godless woman” that line gets me every time, it’s such a stab to hilly’s ego

"you a Godless woman". I love that line, because Hilly was such a fake Christian.

What gets me is that Hilly came and fired a maid in SOMEBODY ELSE'S HOUSE!!! That's how you know she was evil and controlling.

I love how Aibileen isn’t ruthless. Whatever Hilly deserves, Aibileen doesn’t hurl insults or shout; she just serves her the truth.

Elizabeth needed to grow a pair and stop worrying about appearances! Mae Mobley will never forgive her "mother" for this.

"Ain't you tired Ms. Hilly? Ain't you tired??"
Being mean, nasty, and hateful is hard work.
Being kind, compassionate, and loving is EASY!!

I hate Hilly! Last I looked, only Abilene's employer, Elizabeth or her husband had the power to terminate her position.

“You are a godless woman.”
You can tell that line shook Hilly to her very core.

I had a nanny who lived with me full time for almost 6 years and if anyone talked down to her or treated her in any discerning condescending discriminatory way they would never hear the end of me and I would have them leave my house. I loved my nanny so much and so grateful to God for her, she was everything to my kids and I and we were here too. Years later and still we still send her gifts and cards and would take her out to birthday dinners. ( pre covid ) She IS family . Always will be.

This part in the book made me cry a river. When Mae Mobley was banging on the screen door "Abby!! Abby!" wishing she would come back because abileen was more of a mom than Elizabeth. Heart breaking that's how the times were back then.

That’s the thing about racism, homophobia, sexism, etc.... it’s exhausting. It’s exhausting to harbor it, it’s exhausting to hear about it, and it’s certainly exhausting to be the punchline of it.

Hilly: "Elizabeth can take care of her own children."
Elizabeth: "I can?"

Theres a part of the movie when someone says they grow up to be just like their parents. But something jus occured to me. Women like Aibileen took care of these kids and their parents seemed to think that helpers were expendable. But when these parents fired these women they forget about the child. The child would either grow to hate their parents and society for blacks being held down or the child could grow to hate blacks not because of society but because of the feeling of abandonment. Imagine this black person loving you and caring for you just leaves you alone so not only do they hate their parents for not taking care of them they hate blacks for the feeling od abandonment. It breeds hatred.

The way Hilly tenses up when Aibileen walks towards her is gold. She's probably had never been face to face with another black person that close up. I think the message Aibileen was giving cut even deeper with her being 12 inches from her face. Aibileen was nervous as well because Hilly could have retaliated if she wanted to, that's why she lets out a sigh of relief at the end.
