Sleep not only keeps the RAM powered, but also parts of the CPU, therefore you destroyed the contents of the RAM and the CPU state when you pulled the CPU. Try it again, but put the same CPU back in the socket and you'll get the same result.

I believe hibernation mode would be different, it can start back up to where it was even in a power failure as long as it was put into hibernation mode

Use hibernation mode if you want to power it down (and then safely replace parts) and continue with everything how you left them.

This is the pc equivalent of going to sleep and waking up as usain bolt

It's because the BIOS had to reset and discover the new CPU to configure it to turn on.

The experiment was a success. It showed what we expected.

There is no sleep mode in windows 10, it goes into modern standby. Your processor is still active in modern standby, some apps can even run in the background.

This is the equivalent of stealing somebody's body parts when all they did was fall asleep first

Makes sense, the os and the bios had information to keep everything running but they had it for the cpu that was previously installed so when it was replaced, the os didn't know how to allocate the programs since it didn't recognize the cpu, after rebooting the bios was able to perform a post test and get the correct cpu model to give the os

Try it in hibernation mode. It powers off the computer but saves the current state in the hard drive so the windows can stay open but the computer is still of. I think the result would be pretty interesting.

Thank you for answering a question i never asked and i am satisfied

My guess (not a hardware engineer, just took undergrad CS) is that the CPU replacement wiped the registers on the CPU, including the code pointer that tells the CPU which line of code to run next
