The Way to Survive One of the deadliest Lakes on Earth || Lake Natron
The world today is getting smaller and smaller. We know more, we travel more, we see more. As a result, it sometimes seems as if there are almost no places left where you can venture far from mainstream tourism. Yet those places are still there. One of these special locations is Lake Natron. This lake is located near the border with Kenya and is already quite a journey from civilization. Lake Natron is a salt or soda lake in the Arusha region of northern Tanzania. It is located in the Gregory Trench, the eastern branch of the East African Trench, at the foot of the Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano.
Lake Natron is quite shallow, less than three meters and varying in width depending on the water level. Despite not being deep, most animals die before they even touch the bottom.
As the fresh water in Lake Natron evaporates, water with high concentrations of salt minerals, such as baking soda and trona, is left behind. The alkalinity of the lake can then reach a pH value of more than 12.
