Glad to know that I'm not the only one here thinking, "it's no way that job can be done in an hour and a half " lol!

Hour and half. I just did 4 of these, 12 ft long each. Took two days without tree roots.

It takes me an hour and a half to get my work pants, put on some suspenders, get my shovel, find my gloves and stare at the area thinking for a while.

Nobody has mentioned that beyond this taking much longer than 1.5 hr, it's not even a French drain, it's just a drain! A French drain involves a corridor of loose rocks ranging from gravel to River stones or larger, that allows the water to flow through. This video is just a buried pipe.

Thanks for the quick DIY! I can't wait to tackle this project. Thanks for the positive words.

I would think that without using pea gravel that you will get dirt and mud eventually clogging up the drain? Am I right?

So, I don't need to fill with rocks?

The digging is more than 1.5 hours if you're doing it alone.

This is not a French drain. French drain entails a perforated pipe with sock around it. Followed by adding 57 stone or pea gravel for filtration.

Thanks for making it so simple I’m going to try to do it my self!!

Yeah...it'll take about an hour if you have two guys doing all the digging.

Did you check the existing gutters for clogs?

Ok, an hour and a half maybe you can explain why my job took a month. Torrents of rain, wind, tornadoes, sand turned to solid silt from the trench. No, anti caking material did not work. Rocks, boulders that needed to be dug out some weighing 75 lbs. A lone 60 year old woman can't do this work in an hour and a half. But you know what, I know longer have a leaking basement so a month was worth it. Just freaked me out though to see the integrity of the trench around it starting to fail. An old car along trench, an eight foot rock retaining wall perpendicular to the trench. Nerve wracking job. Imagine how easy it would be if I had a team working on this. My biggest gripe was hauling all the tools in every night and covering and uncovering the trench for protection Trench = 2 ft. wide, x 20' deep x 32 ft. long. Used a popup at the end. Didn't like the daylight thing. Testing the system right now as I hear the torrents of rain hitting the awnings. Rained all day lightly and the basement is bone dry knock on wood. I'll know tomorrow if it was a success. If it wasn't I already know the problem areas.Anyone can do anything if you really want to. I am living proof.

1hr and a half? How long has it been since you dug a 10'x2'x30'+ trench, Chuck?

My experience is that sand in the end will clog up this pipe... Might take a few years, but then you will have to do it all over again.

That trench would take me forever to dig out!

Is the catch basin large enough to move the water away? Maybe cause it's a standing water puddle. Won't the mud from the puddle clog the drainage pipe?

How do you keep mud from entering the drain and clogging the pipe?? I'm doing this by myself this seems simple enough but that is a concern I have...I'm getting old I don't know that I could ever do this again 😑

I feel like I would need multiple surface entry grates for my drainage issue.
