Re-watching it currently, it's interesting how in season 1 he's responsible for most of the laughs and then slowly and consistently he gets less and less time on camera until he leaves the show

There is another short doing the rounds where one of the extras says Chevy left because he was dementing, but also was getting really aggressive and racist with it.
On his final day he was repeatedly calling the black cast the N word *to their faces* and Yvette Nicole Brown had enough, went to her trailer said she could no longer work like that and it was him or her. He left that day.
Kinda sad but understandable.

Season 2 episode 13 Celebrity Pharmacology was just a big peek backstage of the show.

He was such a prick to Chris Columbus during the filming of Christmas Vacation that Chris ended up dropping out as the Director. He then went on to help John Landis write thee script for Home Alone which he directed instead. Working with Chevy was not a positive experience at all.

Well for Chevy's last season, his character did become a bit silly. So his complaints were warranted, he was hilarious during the first 2 seasons by comparison.
