This week, Sean is taking more time to dig into the photography capabilities of the brand new S5II! So much is covered on the video capabilities that we often overlook how powerful this camera is for photographers. We'll be going over the stills focused capabilities like 30FPS burst rate, flash compatibility, Time Lapse, Night Mode, High Resolution Shot mode, Sheer Overlay, and more! Sean will also be showing off the 30FPS AF-C capture from a real world situation using both LUMIX and Sigma lenses.

I agree that Panasonic has great support after purchase. It's so good that you can bet that they will not leave you high and dry after they have your money.

Thanks for this content, it's very valuable for every pro user to deepen the technical knowledge of our tools. I am always amazed by how far the Panasonic engineers think about different uses and how to make them all more efficient, all within the same camera.
I really want Panasonic to tackle again the higher end market like sonyFX6 with an L mount camera.

Yes please, waveforms, pin my exposures, especially landscapes and bracketing exposures for highlights. Hi late to this video, but some great questions and equally great answers to them from you Shaun. I’m now sold on this camera but will preorder the X. You’ve shown me that this camera will be worth an upgrade. I also wanted to say thanks to Lumix, the designers, engineers, and the general ethos behind your brand of cameras. I own three Lumix cameras and use each of them to varying degrees for various uses and always feel justified in staying with your brand when I read others comments about other brands. Please don’t change your ethos moving forward, I have feeling that this camera signals a new beginning for lumix and your market share will expand considerably which i’m really pleased about for all the right reasons. But like I say, keep that ethos, and customer support mentality and you’ll keep the likes of me as customers. 👏

Hi Sean. Regarding that AF bounding box suggestion thing:
So basically in order to improve visibility and accessibility - we would love to be able to have a bit of control over how bounding boxes look like in our viewfinder / screen.

That means maybe allowing us to customize the box colors, for main subject in focus, for secondary subjects detected. Maybe it could be a cool menu that gives us an RGB map we can touch or navigate in. Maybe it could be an R G B 0-255 option where we could set out specific colors we would like for those bounding boxes to be it. Worst case - maybe just a list of colors we can choose from.

Moreover, maybe an option to change the thickness of the bounding boxes while shooting to thinner to thicker ones. This could have separate EVF and screen options since those displays differ quite a lot in resolution and visibility on cameras like the S5 II.

For AF display itself. Some reviews and impressions (and that's also an S5 / S1 series thing) is that they might prefer a cleaner way to view AF location and tracking, so instead a box with a cross they could have just a box, or just a cross, or some sort of small thick cross without any bounding box around it. Just stuff to clean the UI while focus-tracking.

I've been doing some comparison sports photography of the S5 vs original GH5 and the difference is astonishing. It's almost a bit of a pain because I used to have just a few keepers to choose from with GH5 and now basically every photo is in perfect focus.

Hey Sean @Lumix USA thanks for doing another video!
I have a question for the GH6
Could you let the engineers know if they could try adding a “follow focus” feature to the wheel around the menu/set button? Scrolling around the wheel to focus on and out would be crazy helpful. Thanks!

@LUMIX USA
Request for the Timelapse features: A third option for intervall would be great. I would love to see a minimal (and maximum) intervall time. Thinking about Holy Grail Shots, where I need the "no intervall" option, but only when its dark. During daylight I want to set a intervall.
This setting would eliminate my need for external triggers.

And thanks for this very useful streams. I am learning new things every time (S5 owner)

@lumixcameras Love your streams! Love the idea of a long workshop session. Planning so that it has a balance between ‘hanging out’ and structure would be good. Also, perhaps it could aim to take us through a ‘beginning to end workflow’ using a case study or mini-project. An example might be ‘Producing your first YouTube video with a LUMIX [s5 II …]’?!

I really hope Panasonic add a preburst mode to the S5ii. Failing that they should at least bring back the 4k/6k mode (RAW ideally!)

Also, some more AF subject detection modes like cars, planes and trains 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Sean--Sorry I missed the live chat (and poll about who has pre-ordered the S5ii--I have! and put in order on Jan. 6).

I have a question that a couple of Youtubers brought up when shooting stills in lower light and they are compensating exposure to give their images a certain look (usually lower exposure than what auto is recommending). They see their chosen exposure in live view but when focus is engaged by hitting shutter button halfway or AF-on, the viewfinder brightens momentarily. Sometimes jarringly so it seems like a flash or washed out image from the originally exposed scene that appears momentarily before the image is taken. The assumption by the users is that autofocus requires the exposure to brighten to let in more light on the sensor. But they also point out that it's not done in video mode. Is this a glitch or is there a way to override this without any consequence to AF functionality? Thanks!
