this was tesla's biggest event ever. I think the robotaxi's are going to be a gamechanger for how our cities look in the future! But I think it's going to take some time to fully get there. What do you guys think?

5:50 FYI, LiDAR is not the reason Tesla hasn't released unsupervised self driving. As you can see in the latest FSD videos, it can see quite well. It's a planning problem, not a perception problem. Waymo uses HD maps to make the problem easier but that solution wont scale. Tesla's FSD will be able to drive anywhere. Not just places where they maintain HD maps

Shelby... A few things if I may. Totally understand being disappointed after waiting 2 hours and not getting into the new Robotaxi, but you didn't let people know that there were 2 medical emergencies at the event, and the event was delayed a hour because of this. So the event was for a limited time, and was planned based on number of people getting rides in time allotted, but having medical emergencies that took 10 or 20% of the events time affects things.
Your comment that Tesla is falling behind Waymo... the 2 companies are doing 2 totally different things. Would you say riding a bicycle and riding a motorcycle are the same thing? They both have 2 wheels, they both transport you from 1 place to another, so are they the same. No. Tesla's AI is learning the real world, where Waymo is memorizing (through mapping constantly) 100% of it's surroundings. So if you take Waymo out of it's pre mapped area, it doesn't work, if these is construction, or special events that affect the roads, it doesn't work. Also Waymos are operated remotely any time it encounters issues, so basically a fake drive if you think no one is driving .
You say Tesla "can't yet" do what Waymo does.... again a incorrect statement. If Tesla wanted to do full self driving in specific fenced off areas like Waymo does, they could, but that is not their goal, not what they are working at achieving. And yes a bigger goal takes more time to complete, but the idea that Tesla is totally false.
no Elon is not stubborn for not using Lidar. Let me ask you, how do you drive? How do you know what is going on around you and navigate through it? You use your 2 eyes right! YOU navigate the roads without Lidar, well Tesla and Elon know this and is replicating the same thing. Using vision to navigate through the world. Also to have a viable business, costs are a major part. What is Waymo's business plan to make money? Spend $100k on Lidar and other sensors, and pay for the vehicle, and pay for constant remapping and pay for teleoperated personnel. Waymos current business model will NEVER be profitable.
Yes what Tesla showed, a lot of it is not operational today. That was not the purpose of the event. The event was to help people understand what Tesla is currently building and how once complete or operational, how it will benefit people in the future.
I hope this helps you understand things a bit clearer and your audience as well.
Just remember NASA, governments, countries, all said that rockets couldn't be landed back on earth. Well Elon said why not? And today is constantly re landing rockets. Elon is building the future, he is asking the why not, he envisions a better future for us all, and for that he has MANY haters that attack him and his companies.

Waygo uses over 90k Lidar for mapped specific areas. It is like learning specific one song on one instrument

Tesla FSD is learning music.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s not about being first but the first mass market solution. They’re also using the same technology in Optimus so I think that’s why he won’t commit to lidar.

Good video! Let's get real/logical, the owners of parking lots are not turning them into parks and throw money away for our benefits. That's just going to be more buildings or charging stations for self driving cars.

The difference is that Waymo requires a a $100k plus vehicle, using Lidar and PRE MAPPED roads (simply not sustainable and cost prohibitive), while Tesla will use its ~$30k vehicles and does not require any city mapping. Tesla will win out in the long run.

Hey Shelby, just so you know, Waymo and other self driving technologies are “Geo-fenced” meaning they can only go in areas that they’ve pre-mapped… sorta like a train on a track. Whereas, Tesla’s technology allows them to drive anywhere and not only in the city’s that they’ve pre-mapped.

This is why I like Shelby. She doesn’t blindly support a company like Tesla even though she owns one herself and probably Tesla stock too. She’s critical of them and provides feedback when it’s warranted and justified.
