Jonathan 'Sugarfoot' Moffett Hears Linkin Park For The First Time

You probably woke up today not knowing you'd be watching Michael Jackson's drummer play a Linkin Park song. But here we are!

We love asking pro drummers to try playing a song they've never heard before, and Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett was gracious enough to give it a try.

But he did it differently. Rather than listening through the track first, he immediately jumped in and started playing along. What you're watching is a true improv jam where Sugarfoot feels the song and adjusts as the song progresses!

This was an interesting and fun experiment! This was an impromptu session….Never heard this song before nor drum parts…I was feeling my way as I played, essentially composing the drums….fun!! And it’s a great song!! ❤️

It's insane to see his adjustments in real time. By the second chorus he was on it. These videos are awesome. The Chad Smith one popped up first, and now I'm looking for em all.

The confidence when he hits that chorus for the second time? What a pro.

this proves how impactful the drums are to a song. He took a song that sounds so huge and powerful and made it tight, and close and almost warm.

He exposes why he's so gifted and natural, he is totally self taught, can't read or write music. Genius.

thats why he went into it right away, he wasnt calculating beats, he was reading the song spiritually. thats total fire

This man is an absolute genius he drummed to a song he’d never heard and put a totally different spin/vibe on it, totally changed the song just shows you how important the drums are to songs

He is soooo far back in the pocket but somehow so IN the pocket. Completely changed the feel of the song. This is SUCH valuable music education.

I love it how he is almost apologizing for playing it not perfect in the first take. He is so humble.

As an amateur I love how he leaves so much space in his drumming. He just never "over-fills". Amazing. A drummers instinct is to make noise. It takes a true pro to know when NOT to.

This series on Drumeo may be one of the best series of videos on YouTube. I'm entirely impressed by this man's talent.

Sugarfoot and Chad Smith are the two best ones doing this bit so far - Just jumping right in only a few seconds in to their first listen. I love this series. Larnell Lewis doing Enter Sandman was a fun watch too

There's something really wholesome about this man giving props to a band in a completely different genre for creating a fantastic song. Linkin Park was always kind of looked down upon by 'professional' critics so it's refreshing to hear this kind of praise from an actual elite musician.

It’s so cool seeing the moment he really starts to get a true grasp for the structure of the song once the second verse comes in and takes full reign from that point forward. Amazing drummer.

Never heard the song before and jumped straight in the cold water...that's talent because while there were only slight parts it sounded off but the adjustments back in tune was incredible. That's ridiculous amounts of talent right there.

How can you not feel moved when you not only listen to how he plays, but you watch as he feels the song and wants you to feel it with him. A legendary talent right there.

The fact he does it all by memory and how it feels to him, not being able to read the drum parts but just knows how they fit in by how it feels just makes him an even more incredible drummer. Self taught and self improved just goes to show how talented you can be on your own. Nothing but respect for Jonathan here.

"Drummer can touch somebody in the farthest reaches of the stadium and make them move their neck, their foot. Thats a power. Thats like the power of god. I can move you, without laying my hands on you. When I lay my groove on you, youre going to move." - Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett

Sugarfoot is never underwhelming. Watching him improv his way through this so well gave me goosebumps.
