A year of Life Science in 3 minutes-Middle School Science
Показать описание
Life Science is the study of life on earth. In middle grades, it is an introductory biology class. The following is a breakdown of many of the topics studied in life science and a video link for each topic. I create a daily animated science video. Each video is three to four minutes long and is geared towards middle grades and introductory high school classes.
Biomes are large areas with a similar climate, plants, animals, and rainfall.
The major land biomes on earth, which are also called terrestrial biomes include,
Desert,tundra,deciduous forest,taiga,tropical rainforest,and grasslands.
Organisms that live in each biome have adapted to the amount of rainfall and climate.
In each biome, energy is passed from one organism to another. An energy pyramid or food web shows how energy is transferred of from one organism to another.
Moving from biomes, and food webs you will move in the opposite direction and study something very small, the cell.
A cell is the smallest organism that is considered alive.
A cell is made of organelles. The major organelles are the mitochondria, nucleus,ER,ribosomes,Golgi apparatus, cell membrane and vacuoles
These organelles all work together to keep the cell alive.
Cells are able to reproduce in a process called mitosis which is part of the cell cycle.
The cell cycle starts with interphase and ends with cytokinesis.
One of the most important objects found in the cell is the DNA. DNA contains the instructions for the cell.
Your DNA allows you to pass traits from one generation to another. The passing of traits from one generation to the next is called heredity. The study of heredity is called genetics.
Traits are characteristics that can be passed from one generation to the next like skin color.
You can predict the chances of a trait showing up by using a Punnett Square.
Organisms that are alive can take many shapes and sizes.
Cells make tissues, tissues make organs, organs make organ systems, and organ systems make an organism.
The human body is made up of many organs like the liver and lungs and major organ systems like the digestive system. These work together to keep you alive.
Finally, life is always changing and there is a tremendous amount of diversity of life.
Charles Darwin tried to explain the variety in life with his theory of evolution.
The most suited organisms in an environment survive and pass these traits to the next generation and over time organisms change and evolve.
There is a year of Life Science in three minutes.
