Did it a couple of times, still unaidentified network. Just as I was giving up and preparing a sandwich a chrome notification came in, it was fixed. YOU ARE A LEGEND!

This worked just fine - my laptop is no longer running really slow so thank you! I'm interested though, why does the "unidentified network in windows" message cause your laptop to run slow?

My gf had this issue with her tower, i did the configuration stuff and after i rest the computer it has been stuck with the 'identifying' in the ethernet connection section.
