Why should you absolutely avoid BHA and BHT in your food?

The preservative BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole), and it’s cousin BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) are added to cereals, chewing gum, baked goods, butter, potato chips, and many more to prevent fats from oxidizing.
The problem is that the FDA considers them ‘safe’ while the NIH recognizes them as a possible human carcinogen. California lists BHA as a carcinogen on prop 65.
I am avoiding any product that lists BHA or BHT as an ingredient.
A reasonable and in my opinion safe alternative for BHA and BHT is vitamin E. It is an antioxidant as well, but unlike BHA and BHT useful and good for us in small amounts.
Now Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have banned BHA and BHT, recognizing that they are linked to cancer, hormone disruption, and impaired blood clotting.

I agree it should labeled but I don’t think the better alternative should be more expensive. It’s BS that companies can do that to a population—so if you’re poorer, you’re going to be more at risk for diseases.

Thank you for a great video. This needs to be out on the news. Tired of all the health issues in our country. BAN THESE FOODS COMPLETELY

I think money has a role in the reason why FDA doesn't require labels

my question is...why are we asking the FDA for anything, if we know they are the ones allowing this garbage into our stores? at this point, i dont give a crap about the fda or any organization, that allows poison into our foods, just to use for excuse to raise the price of "better quality" foods, with their "seal of approval".

its kinda like how nintendo would have a seal of quality back in the day, which meant they approved. however, alot of the games with their seal were not good, and those bad games made the higher quality games more pricy. same deal with food. i dont think the fda is trustworthy anymore, if ever.

I searched what BHT was and I put the cereal back. And it doesn’t matter if you are buying generic brand vs. name brand cereals they both add BHT! Now I read all ingredients on packagings!

My shredded wheat cereal mentions it uses BHT in its packaging material. So not too bad since it's not within the actual food at least.

Japan banned bth and tbhq, yet everything the make, that ships to other countries, has it in the ingredients. What's exactly is going on?

Sadly, industry "self regulates" and writes the rules and regulations on these matters.

I just thawed some Aldi brand pork sausage from ALDIs- purchased a few months back & was gonna cook it and throw it in some Queso. Now I’m noticing the fine print that it has BHA…not sure I want to. Can’t believe they can get away with putting all this toxic crap in our food.

Is it really banned in Canada? Because most of the products that should not be consumed such as American cereals are widely available in Canada. Do they really change the ingredients?

How long does it take for BHA and BHT to leave your system?
