I thought I would throw my two cents in no pun intended! I'm an electronic technician by career for 30 years and have been detecting for almost the same amount of years! The frequencies in a multi frequency detector are different because they optimize the sensitivity of the detector for the metal that you're looking for so silver and copper are more responsive to the lower frequencies like 4 kilohertz and 5 kilohertz etc the higher frequencies like 20 and 40 kilohertz are much more responsive to gold generally, in the past detectors were only single frequency units and were optimized for the best of both worlds but with disadvantage the detector may be very good at silver and copper but not so good at Gold or a detector maybe a higher frequency and be better for gold but not so much silver and copper your run of the mill detectors normally are optimized so that they're average at both ends of the spectrum but not optimum! Multi-frequency detectors like the equinox when running in multi frequency utilize all the frequencies simultaneously so that as you pass over objects in the ground the detector is able to process that information and give you the most accurate information over a wide range of targets! Selecting the individual frequencies has very little to do with interference or EMI and more to do with optimizing the detector for what you're looking for so if I'm going to hunt gold nuggets I'll be selecting 40 kilohertz and running in only that frequency but if I'm going to hunt silver and copper I'm going to want to run at five kilohertz. Hopefully this helps everyone understand the difference. The majority of detectors in the world for decades now have been single frequency units and they are very problematic in highly mineralized soil and salt which multi frequency machines handle extremely well. It's not to say that a single frequency unit cannot operate in highly mineralized soil or on salt the work around for decades was to decrease sensitivity to reduce falsing but unfortunately reducing sensitivity also decreases depth so it's a give and take! Only in the last 30 years or so has multi-frequency really taken hold and Minelab is definitely the pioneer in that arena! Multi-frequency allows the detector to operate in some very harsh soil and wetted salt conditions while at the same time giving you the most advantage over a wide range of targets in the ground. The fact that you can select a specific frequency to operate on based on what you're looking for is an outstanding option! Anyways I hope this helps a little bit! Happy hunting and best regards! Btw enjoy the videos very informative🙂

This guy explains it the best over all other reviews I have ever watched.

When ever possible Detectorist should strive to dig a 3 sided horseshoe shaped hinged plug so that the first lawn mower that runs over that spot wont suck the plug out of the ground. It also helps the grass to grow back, and before closing the plug and pressing it into back into the lawn pour any loose dirt back into the hole.

Well I'm a beginner, and this is another great "how to" tutorial. I've enjoyed your series of videos on the Nox 800. Thanks Larry for all of your help. Liked and subscribed.

Just my my 800 a couple days ago. The dealer was super helpful and showed me the basic setup. He also went over the use of the detector. Yesterday was my first try with it in the field. Dug junk, didn't find not one coin. After watching this video I feel much more prepared. For example the dealer never mentioned the scale when using the pin pointer mode. Also said to use park in #2 whereas you said #1. Thanks so much for giving me my confidence back!

Best tutorial I’ve seen on the 800 plus you solved a problem I was having with my CTX. I’ll keep my sensitivity down from now on. Cheers Mate

I am new to detecting, just put together my new minelab equinox 800 not even 2 hours ago. Your videos have been great in breaking down the basics of operating this machine. I'm excited to get out and get to searching! Thanks for the helpful videos!

Since watching your videos I’ve finally got better with my equinox 600. And I watched other people videos and did not get much out of them. Thanks for all you do

My E800 just arrived yesterday. Got it put together and set up. Watching your vids is a GODSEND! Between you and Relic Dirtyhands, I'm getting to understand this machine and this 'hobby'. I've never done this, except once when I was about 7 or so...for about a minute during some family reunion or something...that was in the mid-70's. So...yeah.. how about "almost never". ;)

Living in the Yukon Territory, I'm more apt to find gold than coins, so there is that! :)

Love this channel, just got my Equinox 800 and found this, on holiday, going to do beach detecting where there are lots of tourists or have been in the past and very few if any metal detectors!!

By far the best tutorial I have seen so much better than the online instructions that came with the detector cleared up a lot of questions and concerns that I had with my new mine lab equinox

I'm just starting out in metal detecting and considering this brand and model because of the great reviews it has. Thanks for your time to record the tutorials, not only on this video but for the others on Minelab Equinox 800 aswell, very well explained :)

Just found this and I'm blown away by what is the best beginners instruction online I have seen for the Nox 800, I've had mine for over a year but have only taken it out a dozen or so times and never re-checked the set up etc; after the first time so have learned a few things (only checking on the solid sounds and the pinpointer graph coming together at the top for it to be dead centre!) and can't wait for the snow to go and the decent weather to begin as this has given me the buzz back to go and search properly this time! Thank You! 👍

Your video is the best I’ve seen explaining how to start using the Equinox 800 as well as some general detecting advice. Good photography, great audio and overall presentation. I’ve been metal detecting causally since the 1970’s using BFO machines and currently have a Whites Spectra V3i. I am looking at the Equinox 800 mostly because it’s lightweight (2.96lbs) compared to the V3i which is 4.2lbs.

G'day Larry, thanks for this video, i think I've watched it now about 4 times before I take my new Nox 800 out, very informative and easy to understand.
Down here in Australia we may fair a bit better in the coin stakes than you guys in the US as we have not only have our old, no longer used copper 1 & 2 cent pieces but we have silver 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and Gold 1 & 2 Dollar coins so plenty to choose from so it wouldn't be that hard to pay for some of the equipment with findings although we also have a lot of rubbish bottle top and pull tabs although most canned drinks these days don't have the peel back removable tabs, they usually stay on the can and the tab folds down inside under the top. My main interest will be centred on the local parks and the popular beaches of Sydney.

Hi, great video you’ve made. Plain and simple instructions without bogging us down with technical stuff that makes you hit the stop button. I’m looking to get into this hobby and you explained things nice and clear. Well done and keep these types of videos coming. You guys over there must have too much money to just throw it away lol. There have been a couple of big treasure finds recently in the UK which gives you the encouragement to get a detector and get out there. Cheers and stay safe.

Thanks so much for this video! As a rookie with the Nox 800, I've used several of your videos to get my settings the way I want them and I am heading out over the holiday for the first time (outside of my own yard). My parents house has an old one-room school house in their yard, so I am hoping that the 800 can help me cut through all the junk thats around and maybe find something cool. :)
