Minelab Equinox 800 Pro Tips - Episode 2-22

Well I've been swing a VLF since the Garrett Ground hog was state of the art, that's 45 years. Mostly in Western Australia but I now live in Tasmania, my thing is nugget hunting in the goldfields and I rarely watch a 47 minute video especially if it's not nugget hunting but I watched all of this one. This is all you need to know about the nox 800 for relic hunting, nothing more to say. If you're a nugget hunter in highly mineralized ground, just slow down, ground balance often, use the factory settings where you can, don't be afraid to turn the sensitivity down and in severe ground you may have to notch discriminate the ground mineralization. Refer to Steve Herschbach's guidelines, for relic hunting watch this one again ! One more thing, I believe the Equinox 800 is the best VLF machine on the market, it's going to be hard to top it.

When I call someone over to check on my signal is great, What is now so great is when they swing over the target, and swing over the target, and swing over the target, change direction and swing over the target! Now they are Wasting my time as the swing over and over the same target. Swing a couple of times and move on.
I love metal detecting and the adventures it brings:)
And yes on the way back to the truck/car I have several times found the find of the day :)

What a great tip video.! I learned so much from your skill with the Equinox 800, the machine I now own. I live in a remote small town with only myself to detect with. I have lived in Glendale Oregon for 6 years, and just this summer found a fellow 800 owner who just purchased his machine. I will share your video with him. We only hunted once and I had to walk him through the set up. I’m excited to try all the tips you have shared. I started with a Garrett AT Gold detector for 4 years, loved it, but my new Equinox is so much more, and a lot to learn. Thank you so much. Gary

Great vid, prob the best I have seen. Took me 2 years to work this out, so will save beginners a heap of time. Couple of things maybe to add: I find with the Nox it is signal cleanliness that delivers - squeaks are (usually) always sign of mixed metals. Prob the most important thing of all I find is to do very short swings over the object (at several angles) to check that the ‘x that marks the spot’ stays in one place. You do this perfectly in the vid, but never mentioned it. Iron x’s wander. Could be another ‘7’ rule ie a seven inch swing, 7 times.
Only thing I would avoid is the keep the Nox in pinpoint mode, as in this mode it will pick up nails or other crap that was being ignored before, and u may bluff yrself into thinking that was the target… Another good one is if a signal disappears - to get the carrot in the hole as it may have fallen out of range of the Nox.. I've had my Nox 800 for a couple of years now and found lots of cool things (no silver yet, sigh...). I got permission from a friend to detect around a ruin on his farm. It's the bottom 1-2 feet of a walled structure made of hand hewn rock/brick. When we started, we quickly found a buried trash pit. Also, during WWII, this farm was part of an Army base. My kids and I were there yesterday (after taking lots of things from the 30's over the past year or so) and thought there wasn't much more to find. We found several mason jar metal lids that have these cool glass or ceramic lid liners in them and ring up like nickels. I found a buffalo nickel in an area that I have covered before. At the end of this video, you talk about detecting on the way back to the car. I did that yesterday and got a good signal and began digging. I uncovered a bit of metal strap I thought (light was bad as it was getting on towards evening) and it wasn't rusted. I was thinking copper or zinc. I didn't want to pry it and have it break so I started taking off a lot of dirt from the top in the direction the strap was running. In doing that, I came across an Coca Cola bottle from the 30's or earlier! Then I was able to remove the "strap". It turned out to be a butter knife! Appears to be made of copper. The blade said "Rogers Nickel Silver" so I guess it was silver plated. But what a great way to end the day just by swinging on the way back to the vehicle! Fantastic tips that I will use on my next trip out there! Lots of iron there... pulleys, axe heads, other farm stuff....

Great video, really great tips! I studied the EQX 800 while it was on order a couple of years ago. learned some things, but no one never said anything about de-tuning. Great tip even though I don't use the pinpoint button, on any detector I swipe with the front and back of the coil to determine size, it saves a couple seconds per find. Also, the spiral technique.. been doing this for years. I thought it was my technique. lol Great tip there alone! I just got my brother into detecting yesterday, this helps so I can show him. since he'll be using the EQX 800. I'm still hooked to my AT pro with the storm coil. Happy Hunting Brother!!

Like your videos because I have to dig in highly magnetic ground. I currently use a bounty hunter tracker 4 and a bounty hunter lone star pro. Have been looking and the Mine lab equinox 800 as a upgrade as I progress in my searching. Live in the high desert North west AZ Kingman area.
