I tried myself a few of these at a shop recently before choosing a set of Facom. If its made in Taiwan its made in one of two factories but I too learned that even same factory means they can have different specs, the good ones probably have ceramic bearings and feel smoother and lighter. Thanks for the video!

They call that 'back drag' in many circles. Often It's an enormous pita.

Can't speak for their ratcheting box ends, but Koken ratchets have extremely low back drag... they're a real pleasure to use; one of the best kept secrets out there. Could go on...

Ce qui est important s'agissant de cliquet est l'angle de reprise (nombre de dents/ °) et la robustesse (Nm).
Attention : la longueur et le poids de la clé Snap-On sont plus importants !

Backdrag in combination with lubing. Both have a large impact on how far it'll go.

Hello again Doc
Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I'm still catching up on watching the videos. It's all good 👍 Again thank you

So long as the back drag is not so heavy that I can't turn the nut with my fingers I don't think it is an issue at all. Once the wrench quits loosening I am going to finish the job with my fingers anyway. It's just faster with my fingers.

I use ATF to keep the mechanism lubricated

I still have my set of original pattern reversible Snap-on ratcheting combination wrenches and only use the open end with the flank drive because the gear end has a design flaw. The retainer for the gear mechanism is weak and if dropped or if the wrench is placed on a fastener anything but flush and then any force used, it would just fly apart. When they came out, Snap-on was playing catch up to Gear Wrench and they rushed them to market too quick. Beautiful wrenches as they are nice and long, but totally unreliable.

Nice video! I just finished doing these exact tests with a DLC coated ratchet I designed...crazy to see you doing it here!

The problem with Wera is the grease they use. I don't know what it is, but I had to leave mine in a cup of ATF over night and the problem went away. It has a similar design and number of teeth as the Snap On (80) so I see no other differences other than maybe length stopping them from producing similar results.

Try the Bosch professional ratcheting spanners. They have they have a toothless ratcheting mechanism

I think that mainly happens because the weight an the balance of the tool

At least with the snap-ons, once back-drag is a concern the fastener is easily finger-tight. I don't think it would be a concern as often as ratchets, which (with extensions) more often get into areas where fingers can't reach.

In Europe we have some lovely brands, some recent additions towards automotive like Unior 161/2 thank me later😂
All of these will loosen up after they’ve taken a few cars apart.

Would the weight of the wrench be a factor in that test?

3:55 how does fewer teeth mean less back drag? The contact on the teeth is bigger

can you compare these to the bosch 0 degree ratcheting set? i just bought it, and i love them

I've found that the Wera ratchets are not consistent. Some have very little back drag and others have quite a bit.

Yeah, well, there’s a reason snap on is the most expensive. Their tools are brilliant

The real race with 10mm tools, is how little time it takes to lose anything thats 10mm.
