I found a snail that gives live birth (blueberry snail) ! 🫐 now in stock @ fishportals.com :)

Guppies are one of my favorite fish because they give birth to live babies - no eggs, just 30 days of pregnany and *poof* and the babies are born fully developed!

As you may or may not know, most snails lay clutches of eggs. But not these new snails… I recently discovered the Blueberry snail (available on my website fishportals.com now) which are from Indonesia. They were recently discovered by Chris Lukhaup and are mostly sold in Germany, making them very hard to find in the US.

These snails are still very new and I was fortunate enough to be sent 5 from one my online fishy friends Chang from Moonlight Aquatics in Washington state. So far they’ve had 3 babies within 2 weeks and I absolutely can’t wait to grow an entire army of them.

Not only are they an absolutely gorgeous deep blue color, but they are also covered with orange species and gorgeous orange and purple antennas. Being excellent freshwater and easy to care for snails, I see these becoming very popular soon!


Here are the conditions I am keeping my snails in (they’re thriving and breeding well):

Temp: 78 °F
Filter: low flow, cover on intake to prevent snails from getting sucked in
Decor: lots of bushy plants, they eat leafy pants
Food: spirulina flake food + decaying live plants
Tank mates: community fish (I have glass belly guppies in the tank)
Parameters: 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite, 0ppm nitrate, ~8 pH, NO aquarium salt

You should name the other snails after the Indonesian islands, which were supposedly where 28 of the about 30 female settlers who founded Madagascar were from, the other two being of African descent. It makes sense because the snails are from Indonesia, and the female settlers were from Indonesia. You are starting your own snail lineage, after all.
Maybe they should be named Borneo, Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi, and maybe you can name some of their descendants names like Komodo or Timor.

Hello! For anyone who this may help, if you are going to get snails or thinking about it I would not recommend ramshorn snails. A couple of years ago I put them in my tank and they took over and started breeding like crazy.

I had a few mystery snails in a hydroponic garden. They were so full of personality. Especially at night. They would climb the tank walls and let go once they reached the top, free falling 😂 love them 💛
