Dude was going on an adventure... My apple snails don't often want to reach the top of the tank and when they do they are just chilling until they sink themselves back to the bottom. 😂

Make sure you puck up the snail correctly! it was cut so i couldnt tell but make sure to never pull a snail off a surface, you have to slide it gently to the side until it un-suctions. pulling it upwards will cause an issue called Mantle collapse, just a bit of info for everyone

Haha you know exactly why! I just found a Nerite snail that somehow made it into my other tank. Which is only a couple inches away, but not in a way it could get to it...scary but awesome 👏

Title: The Enigmatic World of Snails

Introduction:
Snails, often regarded as humble and unassuming creatures, play a significant role in the natural world. These gastropods, with their distinctive spiral shells and slow, deliberate movements, have captured the curiosity of scientists, artists, and nature enthusiasts alike. This essay explores the diverse and fascinating world of snails, delving into their biology, behavior, ecological roles, and the cultural significance they hold.

Body:

1. **Biology of Snails:**
Snails belong to the class Gastropoda, and they can be found in various environments, from terrestrial habitats to freshwater and marine ecosystems. The most recognizable feature of snails is their coiled shell, which serves as protection and support. The shell is secreted by the snail's mantle, a specialized tissue covering the body. The body of a snail is divided into three main parts: the head, the foot, and the visceral mass. Snails move using a specialized foot, producing a slime trail that aids in locomotion.

2. **Adaptations and Survival Strategies:**
Snails have evolved unique adaptations to thrive in different environments. Some species have lungs and breathe air, while others use gills and extract oxygen from water. Their ability to retract into their shells provides protection from predators and harsh environmental conditions. The production of slime not only aids in movement but also helps with moisture retention and protection against parasites.

3. **Ecological Roles:**
Snails play essential roles in ecosystems. They are decomposers, breaking down organic matter and recycling nutrients. Additionally, they serve as a food source for various animals, contributing to the intricate web of trophic relationships. Some snails also act as indicators of environmental health, as changes in their populations can signal shifts in habitat conditions.

4. **Reproduction and Lifecycle:**
Snails exhibit diverse reproductive strategies. Most snails are hermaphroditic, possessing both male and female reproductive organs. They engage in a fascinating courtship ritual, exchanging sperm before laying eggs. The eggs hatch into juvenile snails, and the lifecycle repeats. The rate of reproduction varies among species, with some producing large numbers of offspring, while others invest more in parental care.

5. **Cultural Symbolism and References:**
Throughout history, snails have found their way into human culture and symbolism. In literature and art, they are often used as metaphors for patience and perseverance due to their slow, deliberate movements. In some cultures, snails are considered a delicacy, while in others, their presence may be associated with superstitions or folklore.

Conclusion:
Snails, despite their seemingly simple existence, possess a complexity that extends beyond their sluggish pace. Their role in ecosystems, unique adaptations, and cultural significance highlight the importance of understanding and appreciating these fascinating creatures. From the intricate patterns of their shells to their essential ecological contributions, snails invite us to explore the wonders of the natural world, encouraging a deeper connection with the diverse tapestry of life that surrounds us.

Natural sea snails in rock pools tend to leave the pool constantly. They can hold their breath for immense amounts of times, some even laying their eggs in completely different pools to seperate them, and let the babies crawl the whole way to the other pool with the adults..
