Basic Pottery Techniques 2 : Opening and lifting the clay

Show how you hold your wooden knife when you take off the clay around the bottom of your pot I have trouble with this the cast goes up the pot not away from the pot

the two thumb technique is much easier and instinctive, im new to all this and have tried it a few times now, i feel more in control of the clay, havent masterd  your lifting technique yet. but have made a few good pots.

Using two points of simutanious contact is remarkable difficult to make symmetrical, it takes a VERY experienced hand to do that with the ease you demonstrated.

Hello Mr. Ingleton. I've been feeling almost a need to learn/do pottery and I need to ask a question as someone who has never: When beginning, is there one Clay that's the best for a beginner? Or is it a matter of what you wish to learn first such as porcelain vs somewhat? What is the kind you use?

I know, that this is quite difficult to answer, but how soft is the clay you use? Do you have so apply a lot of pressure to the clay both to get it centered and opened? Your voice sounded quite relaxed. ... I´ve seen people who really had to put theire whole strength and weight on the clay to get it moving...
