PULLING WALLS: POTTERY 101

preview_player
Показать описание
A detailed explanation for how to pull walls efficiently. After getting a good grip at the base, without wobbles, squeeze evenly as you travel all the way up to the lip. Your throwing lines will be your proof of progress.

The "ring" that you see traveling up can often be spotted while watching videos of potters on the wheel. I hope this video explains that for ya!

I’ve watched a lot of these videos and I found the way you demonstrated and described this so helpful because of how you described the hand postures - thank you for this!!

This explanation was a breakthrough for me! After watching this video, I applied the techniques and saw an improvement in my throwing. I wish you had more videos because you're great at explaining pottery.

Thank you so much. I feel like you explain with a lot of clarity. It helps a lot.

The thing I struggle with is I feel like, when pulling, my finger on the outside is almost digging hard into the clay. I guess I'm not sure of how much pressure to apply inside and outside. I often also end up with it getting wobbly very quickly and very thin up top, but still very thick at the bottom.

Where were you when i first started playing in mud. This is a cracking video, your explaining how and why your doing each step and showing it as you do it. This is an ideal 'how to' video. once back in class will go back to basics and follow your lead. Thankyou

Far out the best explanation on pulling the walls with how to place your fingers RIGHT!!!! Thank you so much for your demonstration. Know I know what I was doing wrong. ❤

Very straightforward explanation and demonstration. I’ve never had a problem centering, but I do have a problem with getting the base the right thickness every time. I like the lack of extraneous detail in this video, as one can see what’s happening anyway, and can concentrate on the wall pulling.

I have been pushing in hard with my outside hand to create the donut for the pull and it always made my base super narrow but I will try to set the base diameter then push out with my inside hand to create it!

This explains it so well. I took my first wheel throwing class and my instructor couldve been more helpful. The technique she gave us was just one, I struggled with it, she couldve explained how to position ourselves, what was giving me the issue with pulling the clay, but even when I asked her if there was another technique she just tells me theres other techniques and didnt bother to show me another technique even though during the whole hour I was struggling with pulling 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi! I have a question - the problem I run into is that my clay gets really top heavy… the top flares out and when I try to cup my hands around it to pull the top back in, it folds over itself and the whole thing falls apart. Any tips? Thanks!

Which way should the wheel be turning if your right handed? I have all the steps down up until the pulling. My finger nics it or it starts to spread out wide and flops. Help?

I found your work on Instagram and followed you over here to YouTube. I appreciate the way you explain things clearly. How long have you been throwing on the wheel? I started back in February with ceramics but have been hand building most of the time. I found an instructor near me who has helped me start using the wheel but I need quite a bit more practice. Great video, thanks.
